This bunch of Vijaybank people have gone insane and being stupid in their insistence to plant sundararm shetty Road to St.Aloysius road, which was existing for sometime.
I totally and vehemently disagree with their myopic approach, to me these people appear like like from
cave-era and educated but absolutely un educated in their thinking and actions.

I hope district administration takes cognizance of the fact that the road was named after a well known educational institution which parts education to one and all. I am an aluminai of this esteemed college.

Let them keep sundaram sheety in Mulki to some buidling or Road there.
I cannot digest why such inferior mentality these people display. I hope District administration prevents this from happening.

I don't support the changing the road name from the Current St. Aloysius College Road to any other name. I am totally against it. I studied in this institution for years and around the world " St. Aloysius College " is one of the highly recognized college. Do retain it's Aloysian glory. Don't rename the road name for political reason.

But people will call their name only when they meet one another. No one will call Shetty Road, Poojary Road or Alva Road like how people call Jyothi , Pumpwell, etc, and no one knows where is ambadkar circle Karavali Circle etc. Even if Jyothi Talkis moved from present location this place will remain Jyothi one for ever. Same way even this road will remain as Aloysius College Road or Light house hill road only. I don't think even Vijaya Bank staff will call this as Mulky Sundararama Shetty Road

No harsh feelings but If renaming is must than it should be better to rename it back to light house hill road or it would be more better to to be renamed as Hyder Ali Road since Hyder Ali was the one who resisted against the British and also built the light house and the now so called Tagore Park(which should actually be Hyder Ali Park). They Christians and Muslims as overlooked everytime but still I think Indian legal system is excellent, so let the court decide.

This is a preplanned attack on the institution. Where are the alumni/ae and that too highly professed ones? Where was revered Mulky Sundarram shetty's name all these years? Is the power to be, trying to test the depth of Aloysius standing in the community? Come together and fight for a noble cause. Just renamimg a road is not going to make Mr shetty immortal. He is already immortal in his own capacity. Long live Sri Mulky sundarram shetty in our memory. Namimg a road is too little for such a great soul.

I am not sure why a road has to be named by a chairman of a bank. He was a great employee but it's not that he built the bank.??. We have had other elected leaders who were selfless from south canara such as Karnad Sadashiva Rao, US Mallya, Shankar Alva who were stalwarts of our society who worked and died without amassing anything for themselves or their children.

Having said that, this road lead a lot of students to St. Aloysius College which took them to greater heights. I would prefer the name stay as it is. If there needs a change it should then go back to it's historic name.

Very painful and disturbing to see how the service of the great institution is being insulted and stripped on streets of St. Aloysius College Road. Was there any need to touch the name of the road that was already named for the sake of one financial institution? (great regards for the man who founded it) Where as an educational institution is capable of producing thousands of entrepreneurs and lots of ' influence'. It appears to be a disturbing example to the next generation who study in this institute by naming the greatest political giants attending the Inauguration. Are they really great in front of 11,000+ presently studying future politicians, businessman, scientists, Technological giants, social workers, bureaucrats, ecologists and moreover future of the nation? It is really sad to note that a few people with the agenda of renaming of this road have succeeded.
The great institution St. Alosysius has produced many famous persons who have studied here. It is purely because of the discipline of this more than a century old institution.
It is very disgusting to note that we are after renaming roads instead of development. Some groups of people from our so called intelligent district of Dakshina Kannada have more of communal/caste mind.
It is really disgraceful to change the present name(St Aloysious Rd) of the road which served lakhs of students by providing quality education. Now the name will be changed to a individuals name.
It is the work of a group of persons belonging to a particular community.
Just imagine if all the communities/castes behave like this in renaming of the city roads after their community leaders?
I feel still the time is not ripe. We have still 2 days to go.Now it is the time for the students and old students of this educational institution to come up with a strong protest.

This is sad. It is like dishonouring the patron saint of an institution that has done so much for education not just in Mangalore but throughout India and many countries. Never heard of this new person after whom the road is being named.
what has he done to deserve such recognition when there are so many others who have done so much for society? Looks like the politicians who have agreed to re-naming wanted an "Indian" sounding name. So, look out folks, there will be similar moves to rename other roads that have foreign sounding names.. It would have been more appropriate to name the road after the major donor of SAC, the late Lobo Prabhu who donated the land on which SAC was built.

You are right in every sense. I don't understand why So many Indians never grow up beyond a such tribalistic mindset and never respect history of a place, event, or people of the past. When, I studied in Mangalore it was called St. Aloysius college (SAC)road. Why change it to an unknown person's name.

I tell my friends that history is important to a society . It is like memory to an individual without which we don't know where we come from and we are going. ( quotes from a n eminent historian) .

SAC has given best education to thousands of Indians over hundred years in an area of science, medicine, law, leadership etc. Respect unique contribution of SAC.
