Mangaluru, Jun 18: A video has surfaced purportedly showing district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai asking superintendent of police (SP) Bhushan G Borase to arrest RSS leader Dr Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat in the wake of recent clashes at Kalladka. The controversial video has drawn flak from the opposition BJP.
Addressing a press meet here on Sunday June 18, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel demanded chief minister Siddaramaiah to sack Ramanath Rai for 'misusing' his power even as Dakshina Kannada is witnessing frequent incidents of communal violence and murders.
"From past one month the development in the district does not seem to be good with several incidents of communal violence happening in the district. District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai has pressurized the police department and ordered to arrest innocent persons like Prabhakar Bhat and Rajesh Naik relating to the Kalladka incident.
"Congress is known for creating communal unrest. Earlier when Congress was ruling, Bantwal witnessed frequent incidents of communal violence and curfew was clamped. But when BJP came to power between 2008 and 2013, there was not a single incident of communal violence," he said.
"I feel police are under the clutches of the politicians, as some of the accused in cases like murder of Prashant Poojary, Panjimogaru double murder of 2011 and Uppinangady Pushpavathi murder in 2014 are still at large and police are not able to nab the culprits even to this date. Even in Karopady murder case, the father of the victim revealed about the involvement of gram panchayat leader who is a Congressmen and still the accused is roaming free. In Kalladka there were two attacks and stone-pelting resulting in call for bundh and district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai is pressurizing police to arrest innocent persons relating to the case. He has even claimed that police are saffronised.
"Ramanath Rai is insulting the district. He has become mute spectator and has failed to provide justice to the people. Ramanath Rai should have acted responsibly and called for a review meeting and followed up the case while ordering arrest of the real culprits, instead he is pressuring the police and ordering arrest of innocent persons. Rai needs to be stopped from doing such things that disrupt peace and harmony of the society," Nalin said.
