Gurdaspur, Oct 20: Tensions have escalated in Punjab following the killings of anti-drug activists, with victims’ families demanding justice and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Gurdaspur to meet the family of deceased activist Bikramjit Singh and assured them of swift action. The killings of local voices, including Parwinder Singh Chotta and Gulzar Singh, have triggered widespread outrage across the state.
Opposition leaders have criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing it of administrative failure, deteriorating law and order, and protecting drug cartels. Questions have also been raised over arms and shop licences allegedly issued to the accused and the Chief Minister’s handling of the crisis.

The state government, meanwhile, has pointed to cross-border smuggling and drug supplies from neighbouring states as major factors contributing to the problem.
The killings have intensified political tensions, with opposition parties demanding accountability and a thorough investigation. The issue is also emerging as a major political flashpoint as parties prepare for future Assembly elections.
