Udupi, Jun 7: Karnataka State Hostel and Residential Schools Outsourced Employees Association, held a protest against the government’s policy of appointing people directly for the ‘D’ group post’s for residential schools and hostels. The protest was held  at the DC office premises on Wednesday, 6 June.

Cooks, sweepers, guards come under the ‘D’ group. All of these outsourced employees now face a threat of losing their job.

Karnataka state government issued orders for the new appointments in hostels and residential schools. The government attempting to appointment for the second time comes as a cause for concern for hundreds of outsource employees who are already working in the post.

The protestors also requested the government to abolish the outsource system and to make them permanent workers. They also urged to cancel the condition that the worker should be 10th standard qualified.

The protestors gave in their petition to the district commissioner and to all the five MLA’s of the district. A state level protest is planned to be held in Bengaluru on Thursday, July 13.

Manjunath S Mayyadi, president Venkatsh Koni, general secretary Udaya Kundapur, treasurer and Kaviraj and Balakrishna Shetty of CITU were present at the protest.
