Mangaluru : City doctor loses Rs 14 lac in 'Honey-trap' - Kadri police bust gang

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 16: An incident of high tech prostitution racket which was able to extract Rs 14 lac from a doctor working for a leading hospital in the city has come to light with some delay. Kadri police, who registered this case, were able to crack it and arrest the culprits after the doctor, who was duped, filed a complaint.

The police have named Narayana Salian from Someshwar, Muhammed Ranji from Ullal and Sadiq, also from Ullal, as the main accused involved with fleecing of the doctor by offering the lure of girls. At the same time, Rakesh, who lent support to the activities of the members of the racket, his two friends, and the lady who was hand in glove with the culprits in the crime, have been absconding.

A considerably senior doctor of an important hospital here knew one of the accused, Muhammed Ranji, very well since long. Ranji, who was aware of personal weaknesses of the doctor because of his prolonged proximity to him, drew up a plan to extract money from the doctor in association with his friend, Sadiq. Accordingly, Ranji talked to the doctor, duly enticing him with the offer of providing a young woman to satisfy his sexual desires. On May 2, Ranji brought the lady near Mallikatte bus stand and requested the doctor to reach this spot.

All the three then went to an outlet near Kadri to drink juice in the doctor's car. Ranjji, who remained inside the car when the doctor went away into the shop, called his friend, Sadiq, informing him that they were leaving from that spot within a short time as per a plan they had agreed upon earlier. After the group left the car and reached Mallikatte circle, a gang comprising Narayana Salian, Rakesh and his two friends intercepted the doctor's car. The gang introduced themselves as police personnel, posed certain questions, and took the car in which they had arrived, duly making the doctor seated in the back seat, towards Someshwar.

As per plan, the group took the doctor to a room, forced him to get undressed, before several snapshots of him in the company of the girl were taken. The gang then threatened the doctor to post these nude pictures in social websites and blackmailed him into paying money to them if he wanted his reputation not to be sullied.

The doctor said he did not have money on hand immediately, and agreed to make fund transfer through RTGS. After collecting the form, Ranji visited the bank where he doctor has an account. In the meanwhile, the doctor received a call from Narayana Salian, instructing the former to call the bank manager to transfer the fund, duly informing the latter that the visitors were members of his family. He did so, and Rs 14 lac was transferred to the account of the accused.

After some days, Ranji pressurized the doctor again for more money. The doctor, who was frustrated by this attitude, approached Kadri police and gave full details of the case. He also provided the registration number of the car used by the accused. A police team led by Kadri station inspector, Maruti Nayak, deceptively made the accused to reach Nanthoor-Pumpwell road. Once they came there, the main accused were arrested.

The accused were produced in the court whereupon they were remanded to judicial custody.

What looting u talking about? Do you know the doc personally? If he is taking his charges it's looting... if u go shopping, holiday, pub and spend more money than consultation fee... it's not looting.. that's what u want to say? Show some maturity...

Dear sir, please go through the other news... day in day out...doc s get thrashed for patients death... why always docs at receiving end? Can't charge for treatment... it has to be free... patient can't die... once inside the hospital... docs has to be available 24/7 ... they can't go on vacation.... docs should receive the call when ever patient s call...

Doc did not pay 14L for spending one night with “just one girl”. He was blackmailed to part with that amount to save his reputation.
He paid through RTGS (legal money). Also no doctor would force patients to come to them. It is the patients choice to chose the doctor/hospital of their liking.
so where is the question of looting?

Mr. VK and to all those who have agreed to your views. First of all you don't have the guts to display your name and over that you have decided yourself that the doctor has looted money from patients. You don't know anything about how this doctor has earned his money. No doubt doctor is also at fault. Sick people like you don't complain when politicians or bureaucrats loot you and public money. Your insurance agent loots over 30% of your premium of your own hard earned money and you didn't call that loot. You pay 200 to 300% more for your daily food items and its not loot? You have all the money to spend on costly gadgets, clothes, movies and restaurants and when it comes to health you want free service? Ask your government why have they not provided free and good healthcare with taxpayers money.

    Mr. Anup,
Does the failure of the government to provide good healthcare entitle doctors to rob the patients in need?
Do you know that majority of the patients admitted to hospitals for chest pain and being 'pressurized' to do an angiogram, are actually suffering from gastritis and not any cardiac abnormality?

    Mr. Shankar,
No, no doctor is entitled to “rob” anyone.

But Patients are equally responsible for the situation we are in. Ask the patient why he did not chose a family doctor or a general physician like the good old days. He would have most likely treated him/her for gastritis. He would direct to a Cardiologist only if required. These days patients themselves take upon going to a specialist or hospital, isn`t it?

Here we are not on consulting thema .But doctor was trapped .He had no other chance to comeout of this case.Only once out ,he could file case when he got second call.Anyone can fall into a trap.what one of your friend calls you to meet in one room, then force you to undress and make fotos with a girl, later pressurize to give huge amount not to get into a bad image?
