People from Mangalore, Udupi have occupied very high positions in Karnataka. I remember couple of senior IAS officers from twin districts (Sham Bhat, and another IAS officer , husband of Nirupama Menon Rao who was the Indian ambassador to US, in fact one of the earliest IAS officers was from Benegal Saraswat family of Mangalore. Lobo Prabhu was an ICS officer. Lobo Prabhu's daughter also IAS. Another IAS from Mangalore was from Pangala Nayak family who became Chairman of Nabard. Also in judiciary, we have had Justice Saldanha, Justice Bhima Jois. Recently we had local boy Muslim who was our DC.

However, of late Mangalore/Udipi children more getting drawn to Software, medicine etc. rather than civil service. That is the reason we find outside the state officers in charge of DK, Udipi district administration and Police which is not good for the twin districts.

There is an iota of substance in your comment/response....

Wish I see similar comment from you ..., when a political party accuse Shriman Pramodji for water problem in Udupi (in spite of him doing his best to resolve the problem by working round the clock with all the resources available at his disposal)

Let noble souls of Udupi pray to Lord Krishna to extend his divine blessings to all the Udupites & shri Pramodji.

Nop. That'll be yet another form of "reservation". Government jobs/ or any other job for that matter should be given to deserving candidates based on merit irrespective of where they're from.

thanks to all our spineless leaders, and the mindset of our people in relying on B'Lore , without making effort to exploiting the full potential of Coastal region.
