Mangaluru/Udupi/Kundapur, May 11: Keeping with the tag of 'districts of intelligent people' three students from Mangaluru and Udupi have secured the first ranks in science and commerce in the PU results announced in Bengaluru on Thursday May 11.

Srujuna N, a student of Expert College here and Radhika Pai, a student of Saraswati Vidyalaya PU College, Gangolli bagged the first rank in science. Sai Samarth, a student of Sri Satya Sai Loka Seva PU College, Alike in Bantwal, has topped the state in commerce.

Both Srujana and Radhika scored 596 out of 600 in science. Samarth scored 595 in commerce.

In arts, the first rank went to Chaitra from Ballari.

Srujana N is the daughter of P Niranjan Kumar and Dr Nalini N from Tumakuru. Nalini is the principal of Sri Devi Institute of Engineering and Technology Tumakuru, and Niranjan, a businessman. She scored full marks in physics, chemistry, mathematics and computer science, 97 in English and 99 in Hindi.

Radhika scored full marks in physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology, 98 in Sanskrit and 98 in English.

Darshan P, a student of St Aloysius PU College is a commerce topper with 98.83%, only two marks short of being the state topper. He scored 593 out of 600.

As soon as the news broke out, celebrations erupted at Expert PU College at Kodialbail, where students and management of the College gathered to congratulate each other. They celebrated with sweets and shouts of joy.

Hailing Srujana’s achievements, chairman of Expert College Narendra Nayak told daijiworld, "Srujana is a very hardworking student. She has scored 596 out of 600 in PCMC. Hard work will give definitely give us name and fame. Srujana’s hard work brought laurels to her parents, institution and teachers. Credit goes to her teachers and the atmosphere provided by the college. Her parents too need to be lauded for their decision to send her all the way from Tumakuru to Mangaluru. A combined effort has led to this success. I am sure Srujana will do well inother competitive exams and will be a source of inspiration for other students."

She is the daughter of Madhava Pai and Maya Pai, residents of Gangolli. She has achieved this feat without going to any coaching classes and studying at home the lessons taught by lecturers in the college.

Speaking to reporters, she said that she had expected still more marks but is satisfied with what she secured.

"There are opportunities to excel both in urban and rural areas. The encouragement by my parents and stress free environment has helped me immensely. I was also encouraged in the college by lecturers who said it was possible for me to achieve it. I intend to pursue engineering in information technology," she said.

Originally from Gangavati in Koppala district, Samarth is the son of Sridhar, a businessman, and Latha who is a homemaker. Samarth says his parents always encouraged him in his studies which helped him in achieving this feat.

His parents said they were confident about Samarth securing the top spot. Besides doing his PU studies, Samarth was also pursuing CA coaching from Trisha College, Udupi, when he was in first PUC.

Samarth said he used to study for three hours in the morning and another three hours every evening. He further said yoga and sports helped him in staying focussed.

Speaking about Samarth's achievement, Gopalkrishna Bhat of Thrisha College said, “He has topped the state in commerce due to his hard work. He is not only good at studies but also at discussions and sports which is praiseworthy."

Congratulations to the toppers . I would do justice to the not so widely known truth that the commerce topper, Sai Samarth has not taken any coaching for the
PU Board exams , and that his college, Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Pre-University College in Alike is also in a rural part of Karnataka. He too has a good score of 98 in English, and wasn't a person lost in books. He is a Table Tennis player and a swimmer too.
Also there is another state topper in commerce , Srinidhi P G from Bangalore. Congratulations to her too.

I'm so excited for Radhika. My dad, who's 77 now is from Gangolli and studied in that college. I've visited Gangolli so many times in my life. Can't imagine it could produce a 1st rank student and that too in PCMB. I mean, Bangalore on the other hand has so many amenities and tuitions, courses and what not! Sheer brilliance, dedication and hard work from the student. Kudos to her and her family. I wish all these successful people the very best in life.

I am sooooooooooooo excited for SVM PU college, Gangolli. During my school days I used to go to the primary school, which was near the house. Then I moved to the secondary school, which was a long walk from home. Never felt tired as it was a jolly walk everyday morning and evening. Sit in the school grounds and have your lunch and then "kambada aata" . Miss those days now. I still remember Suresh kamath, Nambiar, Subhash kamath teachers
