Kasargod, Mar 23: In the wake of untoward incidents occuring in the outskirts of Kasargod, two-wheelers have been banned from roads during night time in Kasargod and Manjeshwar taluk.
The order will be in force from Thursday March 23 until further notice. Two-wheelers will be banned every night from 10.30 pm till 6 am the next morning.
Those found violating the order would be dealt with stringently, said Kasargod SP K G Simon.
As most of the incidents of violence were committed by bike-borne miscreants, the district administration took the decision.
On March 21, Madrasa teacher Riyaz was found dead on the outskirts of Kasargod with his throat slit. The same day, hartal was held in Kasargod during which incidents of stone-pelting were reported.
On Thursday March 23, miscreants set fire to a shop belonging to M Sathish at Mogral Puttur. People who were in upper floor of the complex noticed the flames rushed to douse the fire. Following the incident, traders in Mogral Puttur staged a hartal.
Action against rumour mongers
The SP also warned against spreading rumours on social media and said that strict action would be take against those who do so, and also against admins of such social media groups.
"It has come to our notice that ever since the murder of Madrasa teacher, rumours are being spread on social media. Fake news or false message should be brought to the notice of the police immediately," SP Simon urged.
