Mangaluru, Mar 19: The 'Koraganataniya Haagu Yelu Sthree Shakthi Swaroopi Daivagala Nemotsava' was held with much fervour at Shree Mahankali Daivastana here on the night of Saturday March 18.

The Nemotsava had run into controversy with a Koraga organisation calling for a halt on the ritual.

The organisers of Koragathaniya Nemotsava (a part of worship tradition) in Chitrapur were all set to hold two-day ritual from Saturday March 18 night, under the name 'Koragataniya Haagu Yelu Korapugala Nemotsava'.

However, Koraga Abhivrudi Sanghagala Okkuta (federation of Koraga organisations) objected to the usage of the word 'Korapolu' in the Nemotsava at Shree Mahankaali Deivastana, stating that it humiliated the women of the community.

Following the controversy, a meeting was convened at the office of the deputy commissioner on Thursday March 16 and it was decided that the organisers should change the name of the ritual to 'Koragathaniya Haagu Yelu Sthree Shakthi Swaroopi Daiwagala Nemotsava'.

Accordingly, on Saturday March 18, the Nemotsava at Shree Mahankaali Daivastana was organized. Leaders of tribal community attended the ritual and kept an eye on the organizers who had promised to keep their word.
