Kochi: Moral policing by Shiv Sena - Nine cops including SI suspended

Daijiworld Media Network - Kochi (SP)

Kochi, Mar 9: The state police department has taken serious view of the fact that Shiv Sena activists could indulge in moral policing at Marine Drive here on Wednesday March 8 evening in the presence of police personnel who failed to stop them. The department which deemed it irresponsible on the part of a sub-inspector and eight constables posted at the spot to have allowed Shiv Sena activists to indulge in this activity, has suspended them. Some scribes were also witness to this incident.

On Wednesday March 8, Shiv Sena activists had taken out a huge procession under the title, 'Stop Love Under Umbrella'. During the procession, the activists had castigated a couple sitting near the walkway. The boy and girl were threatened to vacate the spot forthwith. Some of them even attacked the two with sticks, and warned them never to come back. This happened in full police glare. As the presence of Shiv Sena activists was huge, additional police forces were summoned to the spot and the situation was brought under control.

In connection with this incident, six Shiv Sainiks were arrested. They have been charged with mischief-mongering in the public and taking out procession without obtaining permission.

It is learnt that so far no one has come forward to file complaint against the tormentors. A few days back, the Shiva Sena activists had posed threats to a couple seated near the walkway after which the youth had committed suicide. A video in which some Shiv Sainiks were seen harassing this couple at Alekal Beach on Valentine's Day had become viral in social websites.

It is surprising that The Police at the venue turned out to be silent spectators. AS THE SAYING GOES..... FENCE EATING THE GRASS. Fence is supposed to protect the grass from herbivorous animals. Now can any one imagine the fence instead eating the grass.

This is what exactly happened in Cochin. The cops who are expected to protect people turned out to be spectators.

If moral policing is noticed here and no action is taken then the same treatment should be meted out to Police who involved in it.

We need very strict law against moral policing in India. Supreme court have to take note of this and should make it as non bailable offence also convicted should be punished with life sentence. It is none of anybody's business to watch who is doing what and who is sitting with whom. India is a democratic country and we are in 21st century, there should not be any space for moral pokicing in any religion and region.

After reading the comments one can ascertain that the mangaloreans are educated and honest, unfortunately that made them week in politics. The continuation of the incident and the parliament session prove that this was an organized plan by the ruling lefties party in kerala. protection was provided by police and have accepted the punishment later on. media was invited to provide large scale attention. and of course they made sure none of them got hurt in the incident. God own country of rapes knows along with education how politics should also injected!

Are you trying to explain that Shivsena was acting according Republic of India, constitution or Taliban type of Shiv sena rule of India? Hardline rightwing factions of India are trying to bring forceful rule over the people which is not in accordance with nofms and rule oa a democratic country. Police are there to protect the public and to side with communal/religious factions.

Shivasene have every right to protest it is a democratic country. In India everyone is free to do what they want as per Constitution as long as they dont break the law. Shivasene did it in police presence so they did not break any law.
