Mangaluru: Those holding bandh not even equal to Kerala CM's chappals: Khader

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Feb 25: Coming down hard on the Sangh Parivar and the BJP for observing bandh on Saturday February 25 in protest against the visit of Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan for CPI(M) communal harmony programme, state minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader said that those who violate the norms set by the Constitution should be 'hit with chappals (footwear).

In a statement that is likely to stir controversy, Khader, speaking at a programme at IMA here on Saturday, said, "Those who go against the Constitution should be hit with chappals.

"There is no need to fret about the bandh. The ones holding bandh today are not even equal to Pinyari Vijayan's chappals. Their opposition to the visit of a democratically elected chief minister is against the culture and Constitution of the country that believes in 'Athithi Devobhava'. Such forces should be thrown out," Khader said.

He was speaking at the launch of Vartha Bharati daily's Media Centre here. The centre was launched by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan.

Addressing the gathering, Vijayan said, "Most of the media in the country say that they are secular, but in fact have a communal inclination. This is a most dangerous development.

"Upholding the secular principles of the country is the duty of the media. However, several media instead foster communalism and thereby polarise the country. This trend should change," he said.

"Nearly 95% of the media in the country are pro-capitalists and are prepared to do anything for them. Many of the media are run by capitalists themselves. It is unfortunate that there is competition between the media to protect the capitalists.

"Each media has its own stand. There is nothing wrong in it. However, it should be conducive for the well-being of society. There are more number of poor people in the country than the rich capitalists. Therefore, the media should be in favour of the majority formed by the poor. But only a handful of media are interested in the poor," said Pinarayi.

District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai, MLAs K Abhaychandra Jain, J R Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava, mayor Harinath, MCC commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Vartha Bharati chief editor Abdussalam Puthige and others were present.

What has today's senseless bandh achieved? For one, it has driven home the point that as the elections approach, you can expect more of this kind of communal division by the BJP. This is probably just the beginning. More of this kind can certainly be expected. Secondly, it has proven, if proof was required, that the BJP and its members can hold the district to ransom at will. Whenever they want, they can do anything and the inept Congress administration can only be mute spectators. They are incapable of stopping any wrong doing by these people. There is absolutely no law and order and if you have political connections, you can get away with anything. The rules and regulations are only for ordinary people like us. It was pathetic on the part of the police to be mute spectators today. But in all fairness what could they do? If they had arrested someone today, he would come out on bail tomorrow and the same person would be rewarded with a plum position the day after tomorrow. The police know this very well. So they are not taking any chances.

First day of Pre university final exams can't be attended by many students who can't travel for the day due to bandh. Many medical emergencies are spiked patients are in critical. Daily labourers who can't feed their families without working today they will sleep hungry. Perishable commodity is lost its value and many millions lost in business.

Is this “Mera Desh Badal Raha Hai, Agey Badh Raha Hai” ? This is sabka saath, sabka vikas coined by BJP which is part of the bandh? Is this the 'Atithi devo bhavo' which Prime minister of nation himself is the brand ambassador?

Do we need this type of smart city which can't respect protocol to other state members? Is smart city lacks smart people?

This city is being electing BJP since 1991 for 25 years. It must have already reached the heavens of 'Acche din'. Sadly it is only in fame for bad reasons like pub attack, morning mist, cow vigilantes, moral police, RTI activist murder by NAMO and increasing drug abuse.

Is Mangaloreans lost their wise thinking ability being highest literate district?

If there is punishment for going against the constitution, there are procedures and punishment which will be announced by the judge in the court but a minister has no right to announce the punishment.
People who hold constitutional positions when they speak they got to be careful especially when communicating with public. His outburst has damaged his reputation or created a doubt about his integrity. What was the need to go so low to express his disappointment?Senior congress people are busy in Bangalore to conceal 600 crores gotala. After all there was only protest by people.there was no unruly crowd. In democracy the freedom of expression is guaranteed by our constitution for all and not only for selected people or group.

Mr Khaders statement may be too hard to digest for many.

But if you think realistically, what would be your reaction if any democratically elected leader like CM of any other State in India or PM for that matter is prohibited to enter any other city/state by calling bandh unconstitutionally ? Your ideology may be different. But, each one has his own right to defend his ideology as long as it is not anti national or not against any law.

By the way, Mangalore and for that matter whole of Karnataka gets lot of business from Kerala. If you look at any business, restaurants, railways, airport, hospitals, schools and colleges. Still you want to call bandh to neighbouring state CM's visit ? Don't visit the venue or accept his ideology if you don't like it. You don't have any right call this bandh which is unlawful.

Bold statement from Khader and Monday again a bundh for this comment is not ruled out. When Modi visits Pakistan to greet Nawaz Sharif on his bday, these Sangi goons dont observe bundh. When several Indian soldiers are killed in terror attacks these sangi goondas do not observe bundh. When Pakistan was allowed to observe Independance day in India and several bjp leaders participated in the event, these Sangis did not observe bundh. Recently in Madhya Pradesh several bjp youths were caught for being ISI agents, these Sangis did not observe bundh. When Pakistan was allowed access to Patankot by the Indian BJP Govt, these Sangis did not observe bundh. When terrorist were handed by special flight to Kandahar by BJP these Sangis did not observe bundh. When Vijaya Mallya was allowed to flee India they did not observe bundh. The list goes on and on.....When a Simple man like P Vijay visits Mangalore these goons wants bundh. Double standards at its peak.
