Mangaluru: UCA city unit observes Martyrs' Day

Mangaluru, Feb 25: On behalf of the city unit of United Christian Association (UCA), Canara Konkani Catholic Martyrs' Day was observed on Friday February 24.

To mark the occasion, a peaceful procession was led from the premises of Infant Jesus Shrine at Bikarnakatte to Bridgettine Convent at Nanthur, following which Holy Mass was celebrated. Hundreds of Catholics took part in the programme.

UCA president, Alban Menezes, vice president, Robert Rosario, secretary, Marceline Raskinha, joint secretary, Joys Rebello, treasurer, Joe Rego, Paul Lobo, and Pascal Lobo, Lawrene Rony Crasta led the procession.

Canara Catholic Martyrs' Day (Konkani Catholic Madtirancho Dees) is being observed by UCA in memory of slaying of Catholic Christians by Tipu Sultan on February 24, 1784 after keeping them in confinement and torturing them besides destroying several churches.
