Mangaluru: Besant Women's College holds mock trial in consumer law

Mangaluru, Jan 17: Besant Women’s College (BWC) in association with SDM Law College and post graduate studies and research in law in the city recently held a unique event in the history of non-law colleges namely, a complete mock trial in consumer law at BWC auditorium.

It was a consumer case relating to deficiency of service. Professor Udaya Kumar of SDM Law College trained eighteen students of both SDM Law College and Besant Women’s College for the mock trial. The student participants in the mock trial played their roles very well.

The effective performance of the students in the mock trial is the testimony of the dedicated service of professor Udaya Kumar and committed involvement of the students. Three senior advocates- Varadaraj A, Rajesh K G and Karthik Udupa of Mangalore Bar presided over the event. The president M J Salian, treasurer, B N Jayaprakash and member Walter Mascarenhas of the DK District Federation of Consumer Organisation were present.

The Secretary of Women’s National Education Society Shyam Sunder Kamath, correspondent, K Devanand Pai, principal Dr Sathish Kumar Shetty P graced the occasion. Dr Sudha K, staff coordinator of Consumer Club, BWC welcomed the gathering. Amritha Ullal of SDM College proposed the vote of thanks. Latha Hebbar, staff coordinator of consumer club, Manjunath Kamath from the department of commerce and students of the consumer club contributed to the coordination of the event. The staff and students of Besant Women’s College, students of SDM Law college and Govinda Dasa College were present and watched the entire proceedings of the mock trial.
