Mangaluru, Jan 17: BJP regional unit president Eshwar Kateel condemned the attack by Congress activists on BJP's defeated APMC candidate and local assembly unit minority Morcha president, Valerian Cutinho, during victory procession taken out by the Congress.

Addressing a press conference in Moodbidri on Monday January 16, he termed the action of Congress workers as 'inhuman'.

Kateel accused policemen of siding with the Congress leaders and preparing charge sheet against BJP leaders. "We demand immediate arrest of attack-accused, Chandrahas Kateel and others. False cases hoisted against our party activists should be withdrawn immediately. If these demands are not met, a huge protest will be organized in the town on January 19," he warned.

He said that Congress had not obtained any permission either to take out victory procession or to use microphones. He wanted to know from the police of the town whether they are following different set of rules in case of Congress. "The attack on senior citizen, 66-year-old Valerian Cutinho who suffers from heart-related ailments, mirrors the policy of suppression of minority people followed by Congress. First information report had been filed against one of the attackers, Chetan. But the police let him go with Congress activists, although he has been accused of murder attempt. Is this a police station or Congress office?" he wanted to know.

BJP district general secretary, Umanath Kotian, accused the local MLA of protecting the accused in this case. Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat vice president Kasuri Panja, district spokesperson, Krishnaraj Hegde, district vice president, Jagadish Adhikari, general secretary, Sudarshan M, and several other leaders were present.

Meanwhile, in a press meet held in Mangaluru, BJP district president Sanjeeva Matandoor also strongly condemned the attack on Valerian Cutinho.

"Congressmen have been claiming that Valerian had created obstacles to the progress of their victory procession besides using abusive language against their party workers in a loud voice and filed a counter complaint against Valerian Cutinho. Police have lodged FIR against Umanath Kotian, Eshwar Kateel, Sujan and Jagadeesh for no reason," alleged Sanjeev Matandoor.

Sanjeeva Matandoor demanded to withdraw the case filed against BJP workers and arrest Chandrahas Sanil and his representatives as early as possible.

"Congressmen are trying to destabilise BJP with the help of police department and Moodabidiri MLA Abhaychandra Jain is directly involved in the conspiracy," he alleged.

BJP will stage protest against Congress on January 19 at Moodbidri regarding the incident.

BJP district vice-president Ravi Shankar Mijar, general secretary Brijesh Chowta and others were present.
