Large crowd regales in 41st Wilson Olivera Nite at Bengaluru

Media Release

Bengaluru, Jan 20: A refreshing musical start to the year 2016 for ardent Konkani music lovers was provided by the well-known and talented 'Sangeeth Sardar' Wilson Olivera as he unveiled his 41st musical nite at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru on Sunday January 17. Over 1,200 music enthusiasts from the Vijayanagar parish (event organiser) and other neighboring parishes of Rajajinagar, Jayanagar, Koramangala gathered to witness and enjoy the musical fiesta coupled with dance and humour.

This musical nite staged as a fund raiser for the development of St John The Baptist Church, Vijayanagar was made possible through the relentless hard work of the Vijayanagar Konkani Catholic Association (VKCA) and the overwhelming generosity of sponsors both in cash and kind. It is rightly said, music has no language and this was truly evident during the musical evening. For the first time ever in the history of Konkani musical shows, the audience was a mix of Mangalureans, other Kannadigas, Tamilians and Malayalees who had gathered to witness this signature event.

The event brought together some of the remarkable people in our community, namely, Fr Charles Serrao, provincial superior, Karnataka-Goa Province; Fr Archibald Gonsalves, former Carmelite provincial, Fr John Pinto, parish priest of St John the Baptist Church, Vijayanagar; Edward D'Souza, chairman, FKCA; Alwin Pinto, president, VKCA, Victor Sequeira, former president, VKCA; and Amit Vas, secretary, VKCA who in one way or the other contributed to the success of this noble cause through their prayers and deeds.

Addressing the gathering, Fr John Pinto, parish priest of St John the Baptist Church, Vijayanagar said, "We unanimously decided to organize the musical nite not only to raise funds for the refurbishment of the church, but also wanted Konkani lovers to unwind and have a wonderful evening."

He also lauded the unity and support shown by non-Konkani speaking parishioners in mobilizing funds by supporting Wilson Olivera Nite.

The event partner, Aaron Mathew Pais was felicitated and likewise all other sponsors were also honoured during this occasion. The parishioners also took this opportunity to felicitate the star of the evening, Wilson Olivera. Pramila D'Souza compered the formal stage function.

The evening began by invoking the Almighty's blessings which was later followed by a power-packed entertainment of music, dance and comedy for three hours from Wilson Olivera and his team. Talented artistes namely Babitha Pinto, Priya Menezes, Rony Crasta, Pradeep Pinto, Prashanth Pinto and Joseph Mathias were flown in from Mangaluru and Dubai along with Mangaluru's famous dance troupe, Nach Sobhann and the comedy trio, Me-Mo-Ri. The master of ceremony for the evening was none other than the remarkable and noteworthy compeer of Konkani, Ronald Olivera, younger brother of Wilson, who ably compered the show and engaged the audience with his unmatchable oratory skills.

The musical extravaganza featured some of the new and popular heart winning compositions of Wilson Oilvera such as 'Mamma', 'Vigaar', 'Christavano', 'Bomb Fudtha' as well as romantic numbers such as 'Oh Mojaha Bangara', 'Sanjechim Saat Zalim', 'Dhad Dhad', 'Tu Chedum Konachem' and many others with soulful music directed by Roshan D'Souza, Angelore. During this evening, Wilson Olivera also unveiled two of his brand new compositions, 'Punvechi Raa' and 'Kahai Tum Vetay Moga' from the upcoming Konkani movie, 'Noshibacho Khell'. On the one hand while music cast its spell, on the other scintillating dance moves and rib-tickling comedy left the audience glued to their seats till the end.

Ever since Wilson Olivera first performed in Bengaluru, he has always been warmly received and applauded by Bengalureans for his contribution to Konkani music. This time again, Wilson Olivera mesmerized his fans and weaved magic which will be cherished for days to come. All in all, it was a spectacular and power-packed evening from Wilson Olivera and his team.
