24 killed in Boko Haram attack in Nigeria

Abuja, April 7 (IANS): At least 24 people were killed in the latest attack by Boko Haram in Nigeria's state of Borno, a medical source said on Monday.

Dozens of injured were rushed to the state-run General Hospital in Biu area of Borno, following the attack by members of the terror group in Kwajafa, a town located 220 km from the state capital Maiduguri, on Sunday, Xinhua reported citing a medical staff.

Boko Haram members stormed Kwajafa, in the southern area of Borno, in two cars and opened fire on the residents. The hospital source said 24 bodies were deposited in the hospital morgue after the attack.

Some residents were trapped in a fire set up by the terror group.

According to Malam Musa, a community chief, the relative peace which appeared to be back in the area, had encouraged many of the residents who had earlier fled to other communities due to the Boko Haram attacks, to return.

The Nigerian military had recently made joint efforts with multinational troops to rout Boko Haram members from Nigeria and other neighbouring countries.
