St Anne’s Friary on Jail road, a house of prayer of the Franciscan Capuchin Friars, has been a landmark in Mangaluru city for the past 85 years. Over the years it has touched the lives of people from different walks of life.

The old chapel at the friary which had to be replaced with new chapel now, will become a place of tranquility for thousands of devotees.

The place where the friary stands presently was gifted to the friars by George Lobo, a retired jailor in memory of his deceased wife, Annie Lobo in 1936. Hence the friary was named after St Anne. Earlier the Friary used only as a residence and center for Franciscan gatherings is a giant institution now.

The friary has many initiatives to its credit including Secular Franciscan Order (SFO), Konkani Natak Sabha, Don Bosco hall, 'Sevak' Konkani monthly magazine and Assisi Press.

St Antony’s Shrine which stands in front of the chapel, St Pio shrine and Divine Mercy Centre are the places inside St Anne's friary premises which attract people from all religions every day. Divine Mercy Centre where more than a thousand devotees gather on every Friday, is called as a place of miracles.

Fr Cyprian Peter D'Souza, the Superior of St Anne's Friary and his team of friars have invited all the devotees and donors for the blessing of the chapel.

Happy to see this newly built chapel by Fr. Cyprian. This chapel reminds me of fond memories of Assisi House. For four years we have been visiting this chapel for daily mass.

What a good news to learn. The chapel at St Anne´s friary will be a place for the faithful. Especially today chapels are important. Meditation, prayers, worship, study the Bible, attending Holy mass give the faithful certainty, joy, happiness, strength and a meaning of life. Yes, faith strengthens people in a special way. I know lots of people who have difficulties to cope with a rapid changing environment. Changes in their jobs, relationships, a changing technology that has an enormous impact on our cultures, perceptions, traditions and values. The consequences are visible, addiction to drugs etc.
For human beings who believe in God, chapels, churches are places to meditate and even to think about their lives, sometimes to figure out what shall be changed in personal life to be happier and seeing the needs of others.
A strong personal faith is a blessing for people. It helps to cope better with difficult situations in life. Friends of mine found certainty in Buddhism or yoga or meditation.
I am sure the new constructed chapel will cintinue to touch the lives of people from different walks of life. May more and more people pray and worship or attending Holy mass at the chapel and leave the place with certainty and joy.

    Best regards
