UID chief Nilekeni to contest Lok Sabha poll on Congress ticket ?

Bangalore, Sep 18: With hardly eight months to go for India's parliamentary elections, major political parties are already in search of some star candidates who can turn the fortunes in their favour.

Nandan Nilekani, chief of India's Unique Identification (UID) project is expected to contest Lok Sabha election from Bangalore to attract the IT-friendly voters in his native place. Congress has reportedly proposed his name to counter BJP senior leader Ananth Kumar who is trying his luck for the 5th time from Bangalore South.

Ex-infosys chairman Nilekani is a popular personality among the educated classes in the state, specially in Bangalore. His reputation increased after Dr Manmohan Singh offered him the UID project's top post.

Speaking to a leading business daily, Nilekani said, "Although there is no final decision as yet, it is about making a choice at this stage, getting into the mainstream and becoming one who can initiate change for the larger public good."

A senior Congress leader in Bangalore said that talks are on since the last few weeks. "Nilekeni is the right candidate for Congress from Bangalore city as there are several thousands of IT savvy voters who support Nilekani and UPA's IT policy. Very soon, he will be joining Congress," he said.

Nilekani had recently turned down the request of Infosys chief Narayana Murthy's to re-join Infosys.

First of all respect people's choice. Call him by his proper name and respect him for his achievements. Most of the people who comment here should read about real vascodagama and return to their roots. Then respect for nation and the trials undergone by the people over last 1000 years will be realised.

This is the true secular face of India, and Congress is right is choosing their next-generation politicians. He has the experience of leading one of the top 5 IT companies in India, employed people from all religions and caste, no agenda to build temples or churches or mosques, this is the real secular face! I am sure everyone will vote for him thus helping the nation gradually with highly educated law-makers.

Nilekani made money by selling UID. So he should be thankful to congress. What is security of aadhar database not getting to the hands of terroists? Best idea of killing privacy of person is Aadhar.

It is the hidden agenda of congress to make more profit from UID project. Basically UID project is not given any benifit to public than troubles due to not having this. There is no control and the agents are making money during enrollment to the tune of Rs. 500/head. Hope this collection goes to someones pocket from UPA.

Why not the same comment when a discredited guy like VK Singh attended feku's rally. A man who did not open his mouth when he was made Chief of Army staff based on his age registered, but started claiming that he was a year younger only when his retirement drew near, just to extend his tenure. He then started blaming the government for his own folly. Since he was kicked out he has jumped first into the Anna camp and then the Kejriwal camp and now hobnobbing with feku for a seat.

Let him contest from Congi or BJP Ticket since every citizen of India has right to context any election. But please keep him away from UID Business else he will start issuing Residents Cards for Non-Citizen of India too to enhance the Congi Vote Bank. This is the dangerous trend happens only in India that retired Judges, Higher Level Military Personnel, IPS, IAS or KAS Officers are joining any Political Party to context the election. Then how we can expect these Officers lend their Services without any bias to the common public or Nation?

Sachidanand would not have commented to keep Nilekani away from UID business if he is joining BJP. On one side we are all saying we need educated people to contest elections. And on the other side if educated people are ed by Congress, then we hear hypocritical comment like "to keep Nilekani away from UID business."

Judging by the disastrous and messed up implementation of Aadhar card / UID, it will be suicidal for Nilkeni to contest from Bangalore.

Bangalore South has lot of educated people and they are the ones who are most frustrated standing in lines for hours only to be sent back saying server is down.

Aadhar card / UID implementation is a poster child for the worst implemented IT project and Nilkeni should be ashamed of himself for even claiming credit for it.

Nilkeni is only enjoying Cabinet level perks while people stand in queue braving rain and sun for a stupid card.

Congress will only help BJP will this in a walk over contest as people are frustrated with UID and thus with Nilkeni.

Nilekani should be respected by every Kannadiga/Indian irrespective of his political affiliations. I am also his fan. But i don't support him politically.

    Actually matter is this:

Nandan was fooled by UPA in the name of Adhar project. This project was complete failure. Last year Adhar Cards were being issued in the name of Nandan, Datti Sadananda Gowda etc etc in KR Puram, Bangalore.

Aadhar card was supposed to be VERY UNIQUE. Means it can not be duplicated. It is supposed to be based on eye lid and finger print scans. One of my family members has got 2 Aadhar cards one in home and another one in Mumbai.

Without knowing to Nandan some unseen hand is involved in Adhaar scam. But they are planning to make Nandan as scapegoat as he is the chairman. Now no option is left for Nandan to save his face but to support corrupt party.

The Result will be: Nilekani losing by 50,000 plus votes.

All the best to Nandan Nilekani for the future, may God help you to take right decision. One thing we want see is to have a Good replacement if he leaves the UID Project, I dream of a strong India with the UID going countrywide and become a single ID for all transactions...Remove all other ID Cards and bring one for all.Link all ID related info to this card..Jai Ho..
