Mangalore, May 12: It was the perfect way to beat the sweltering heat, and in the process have loads of fun, and to top it all, win free tickets to the ongoing IPL too.

On Sunday May 12, thirty teams spent the weekend evening gobbling up ice creams in a bid to outdo each other in the ice cream eating contest 'Ice Cream Premier League' jointly organized by The 3 Hungry Men and Hangyo's newly-opened Icy Creamz parlour, at the outlet located at Divya Deepa Arcade here.

The event was co-sponsored by Pepsi and 92.7 BIG FM.

Thirty teams participated in the preliminary round wherein a contestant was required to finish half a litre of ice cream in the fastest time possible. Six teams made it to the semi final, and top three teams contested for the coveted IPL tickets in the final round.

After an interesting contest that saw many a litre of ice cream disappearing in no time, Dhiwin Varma and Suraj Shetty grabbed the first prize of two IPL tickets for the 63rd IPL match which will be held on Tuesday May 14 at Bangalore between Kings XI Punjab and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Staj Soften and Rohith were the first runner-up, winning two vouchers worth Rs 500.

The second runner-up spot went to Sonal Karkera and Austin.

There was a special 'Man of the Match' prize, which went to Sonal Karkera for finishing half litre of ice cream in a record 1 minute and 16 seconds.

Kiran of Pepsi and F S Miranda, marketing manager of Hangyo handed over the prize to the winners.

Speaking to Daijiworld, F S Miranda said, "We are holding the ice cream eating competition to promote our product to the customers. Hangyo’s Icy Creamz has introduced a new product called Icy Stones which is first of its kind in coastal Karnataka. Icy Stones has varieties like Full Moon Paradise, Crazy Chimp, Oreo Fantasy, Picture Forest, Heart Break Brownie, Happy Appy, Black Forest Blast, Mangalore Chocolate Delight, Alice In Wonderland."

On this occasion, Girish Kamath was given the prize for winning a competition conducted by 92.7 BIG FM.
