Udupi, Feb 14: Sri Vidyavallabha Teertha Swami of Sri Kaniyur Math performed the ‘Akki Muhurtha’ as part of the second ‘Paryaya Mohotsava’ at Kaniyur Math in the early hours of Thursday February 14.
It is a traditional way of accumulating the grains for the forthcoming two years by the Swami. He said prayers and offered different varieties of fruits and flowers to ‘Yoga Narasimha’ (Pattadha Deva).

The ceremony is the second of the four rituals that have to be performed by the religious head before accepting the Paryaya throne. Sri Vidyavallabha Teertha Sripada will ascend the Paryaya throne on January 18, 2014.

The ritual of ‘Bale Muhurtha’ was performed earlier in December. The ‘Kattige Muhurtha’ and ‘Bhattha Muhurtha’ are remaining.

On Thursday, the Swami also visited ‘Chandramouleshwara’ and ‘Anantheshwara’ temples in a grand
procession. Later, he visited the Sri Krishna temple. He was brought in a
procession to ‘Subhramanya Gudi’ and ‘Brindavana’ to offer prayers. ‘Mahamangalastike’, ‘Dhanyalaxmi Pooja’, and ‘Navagraha Pooja’ were performed on the occasion.

The ‘Akki Mudi’ was kept in the golden chariot marking the
ceremony of ‘Akki Muhurtha’. After this, the greeting ceremony comprising of ‘Beerudu’ and ‘Bavali’, was held.

The heads of the ‘Asta Math’ received a grand welcome at Sri Kaniyur Math where they performed ‘Malika Mangalarathi’ to Sri Vidyavallabha Teertha Swami.

“Priority will be given to ‘Anna Dana’ and ‘Jnana Dana’. Religious values will be highlighted and service
of offering free food to devotees and the needy will go on during my term of Paryaya,” said Sri Vidyavallabha Teertha Swami.

“The Akki Muhurtha is symbolic of the ancient idea of satisfying human hunger. Udupi Krishna Math is known to be the center of ‘Anna Brahma’. The same will continue in future,” he assured.
