Muscat: Fun all the way at MCCP Mangalorean Day

Muscat, Feb 10: After the fantastic event of cricket tournament held in January, the Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish, Sts Peter and Paul Church – Ruwi successfully hosted one more event, this time however, the most awaited of them all, the 21st year Mangalorean Day at Muscat Sports Club Grounds, Al Wadi Al Kabir on Friday, February 8 for its members with utmost fervor, colour and joy.

By virtue of holding such an energetic and fun filled eventful day, president Lawrence Alva and his team (VP-Sport and Finance - Ajith Waldar, VP Cultural – Clita Crasta, general secretary Sonia Martis, Sports secretary  Loveline Rego, honorary treasurer Dolphy Frank, internal auditor Philip D’ Souza, spiritual secretary Fredrick Castellino, and Valentina Rodrigues (secretary, Community Services) spread the mantra of “Have Fun, Get Fit”.

All the arrangements were well organized, coordinated and managed by the EC committee to boost the activities of the event and galvanize the members. The registration started at 10 am and the counter was managed by Shaila D’souza, Anita Lobo, Shalini Monteiro, Celine D’souza, Shanthi D’souza, Felcy Frank, Melita Alva and Jessie Pereira.

The opening ceremony started at 12 pm. Renowned compere Suraj Rebello, in his usual energetic and witty way, took charge of the proceedings for the entire day.

To begin with, Frederick Castelino invoked the blessings of Almighty God and Mother Mary on the event.
 
Welcome speech was delivered by Lawrence Alva, MCCP president. Alva expressed in his speech that human beings are social animals and stressed that a bit of fun in life is necessary to attain bliss in our lives. It also helps us to get insight and understanding of the fellow members' their talent and skills.

The chief guests of the ceremony were Cliford Sanctis and his wife Lydia Sanctis. Introduction of Cliford Sanctis was given by Suraj Rebello. Bouquets were presented to Cliford Sanctis, his wife and children Auraltina and Leanne Alva. Cliford Sanctis, who is a successful entrepreneur in Oman has been a long term supporter of MCCP and is a strong financial backbone to all MCCP events. Cliford Sanctis, in his speech, expressed that he was lucky to be a member of such community and wished good luck to all. The opening ceremony was inaugurated with letting the pigeons free from the cage by Lawrence Alwa, Ajith Walder, Cliford Sanctis and Lydia Sanctis.

During this event, a CD, titled “Dance Dayana Dance” was inaugurated by veteran musician of the community Oswald D’souza, originally composed in Konkani album by him. Apolinaris D’souza and Ivan Moras were also present, sharing the dais with Oswald D'Souza during the CD launch. “Dance Dayana Dance” contains songs sung by Dr Prashanth Raj, Prakash D’souza, Morvine Quadras, Ivan Moras, Lavita Lobo, Reena D’souza, with lyrics from Praveen Raj and guest artistes Eric and Joyce.

Later, the stage was taken over for the fun sports by Suraj Rebello and Dolly Gomes. The entire day's event was handled by them and everyone danced to their tune. They played a great role in making this event achieve the resounding success that it deserved.

Other supporters were : Henry Rodrigues (scorer), Maxim (volunteer), Johnson(volunteer) Thomas Pinto(volunteer), Jeevan (volunteer). Photo coverage for Daijiworld was done by Dilip Correa and Arun Lobo. Photo coverage for MCCP site was done by Jaison and Gerwin.

Nursery and KG -Bombing the City

I and II -Frog Race

III and IV - Frog Race

V and VI -Hopping Race

VII and VIII -Back Running

IX and X -Frog, Hopping and Back Running

Men and Ladies -Cracking the coconuts

Men -Pumpkin Relay

Ladies -Banana Relay

Men and Ladies -Breaking the pots

Men and Ladies -Tug of war

Group -Filling the water bottle, passing the ice, Carrying the water in the bucket

To commemorate the upcoming Valentine’s day, “Valentine race” was held for the couples.

Champions of the Day : ‘Bejai’ Team with 530 points

2nd place : Ammembal with 526 points

3 place : Balkunje – 513 points

4th place : Byndoor – 488 points

5th place : Boliye 453 points

6th Place : Cordel 421 points

7th Place : Loretto and Moodbidre – 405 Points each


During the event, prize distribution ceremony was held for the winners of Dance Competition (held in November 2012) and Crib competition (held in December 2012). Also, appreciation certificates were distributed to the all the dance participants.

The sumptuous lunch and refreshment was served to boost up the extra energy of the members.

Medical assistance was provided by Precilla Castellino and Valentina Rodrigues.

The zeal and enthusiasm of the members made the event all the more, a grand success. All members over enthusiastically participated in all the games, thus making their weekend, a really fun filled and frolic one. Everyone got simply soaked up in this joyous atmosphere. This event truly marked the unity of our community.

Winners and the participants were honoured by the give-away bags.
