Bangalore: Yeddyurappa Bids Farewell to BJP, Set to Launch KJP

Bangalore, Nov 30 (IANS): Former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Friday quit the BJP and the assembly to launch his own party, denting the Bharatiya Janata Party's prospects in elections due next year.

The 69-year-old, credited with bringing the BJP to power for the first time in Karnataka and south India in 2008, will formally launch the Karnataka Janata Party Dec 9 at Haveri, some 400 km north of Bangalore.

Accusing a section of the party leadership of conspiring to "drive him out of the party for which I gave 40 years of my life", Yeddyurappa announced at a public meeting at Freedom Park in the city centre that he had sent his resignation from the BJP to party president Nitin Gadkari.

Later, he drove in an open vehicle along with hundreds of supporters to the state secretariat about a kilometre away and gave his resignation from the assembly as well to speaker K.G. Bopaiah.

He told Bopaiah that he was resigning from the assembly on his own and urged him to accept it immediately.

Yeddyurappa represented the Shikaripura constituency in his home district Shimoga, about 280 km north of Bangalore.

Yeddyurappa, who began his political journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, said his new party would contest all 224 assembly seats next year.

The assembly is 225-strong, with one nominated member.

Yeddyurappa is peeved that the BJP leadership did not keep its promise to make him the state BJP chief soon after he was forced to give up the chief minister's post in July last year over mining bribery charges.

He said he was leaving the BJP with a "heavy heart" as "I have given my 40 years of life to build it".

Ahead of the public meeting he prayed at a temple and turned emotional and shed tears.

"I have sacrificed my life to build the party," he told reporters.

Though the party had "given everything to me", he said he was leaving it because "some in the party don't want me to continue in the party. Hence I am resigning from the primary membership".

Yeddyurappa alleged that he was "put in the dock" by "some people in the BJP" though he was not guilty.

He said he had asked BJP ministers and legislators supporting him not to quit the party now as "I want the Jagadish Shettar government to complete the term" which ends May next.

The BJP has 119 members in the 225-seat assembly. Its term ends in May next.

Yeddyurappa and his supporters claim that over 40 of these legislators, including several ministers, were ready to join the new party.

But Shettar, the BJP's third chief minister in over four years of rule in Karnataka, and state BJP chief K.S. Eshwarappa claim that only a handful of legislators would join the new outfit.

Even though he winked at the street rowdies to attack the Churches when he came into power, his new party won't take that route because Mr. Yeddyurappa is now born-again. His main goal is to undermine his old most loved

Some days back one blind supporter had commented "fighting in BJP is small issue..BJP high command will solve this issue". Where is the high command and where is this person now? Also, another blind BJP supporter had commented "Koti koti pranamagalu Yediyurappajee". Now this person also not to be seen here. BJP High command never had guts to expel Yediyurappa from BJP as it's president himself is tained and he himself is a big thug and hence what action can be expected from this BJP president? I am sure many BJP MLA's will go with Yediyurappa and BJP will be whitewashed in Karnataka for it's karma. Madidhunno maharaya - this saying is coming true for BJP. Communal hatred, attacks on places of worship, corruption, goondagiri, attacks on unarmed people and women and curse of the people will prove very costly for BJP in the coming days. BJP should name itself as Bhandaya Janara Party.

After having spent the best part of his life in the opposition benches, he finally gets an opportunity to rule. Makes a mess of the opportunity. As is usually the case, the mining money might have been responsible for his downfall, as the reddys could not get thier way with him especially when they used their money power to install him in the first place. Nevertheless, it clearly showed that he did not have what it takes to occupy the ruling side seat in the Vidhana Soudha. He will once again end up sharing power (if at all) with Gowdas who are known to be unpredictable.

No one is spared for wrong doing. Time is very near to shed real tears and repent your sins. Remember attack on innocent nuns by your goons ? Remember attack on minority worship place ? Remember false cases filed on innocent minority youths ? Remember false swearing on your own God and your holy place ? Now, by leaving BJP and forming new party you have hit the spade to dig your own grave, you communal, superstitious Yeddy ! Praise the Lord !

As I hoped and prayed yeddy has written his own political obituary for the well being of Coastal Karnataka and Karnataka as a whole.

People who make the mistake for supporting Yeddy and Chaddi just because he formed a new party forgetting all his "Karma" as Ex-CM will regret very soon.

40 years hard work & relationship comes to ends with a A4 paper, and people ask why he "tears". when we work for company for 3-4 years and we put a resign paper we feel like emotional ,here BSY built the party in Karnataka from 1 MLA to 120 MLAs ,it is not a easy decision for him to leave the party. think from his side and then u can feel it.
everyone know how politics are, no one is clean here like HDK etc.....
BSY is leader of poor’s, farmers and labors and he never shown a dream of making Bangalore Singapore, he take about reality and he know every part of Karnataka as he toured Karnataka for 40 years .No Karnataka leader know Karnataka as much as BSY .

In this game only winner is CONgress.

BJP will loose enough seats to keep it out of power.

Yeddy will loose all money he made as DCM and CM illegally( Kereya Neeranu Kerege Chelli!!!) and perhaps win less than 10 MLA seats.

If CONgrss does not get clear majority, then JDS will Shine if not will be in same position.

BJP must have sacrificed their Government by not removing DV Sadananda Gowda from CMs Chair to please Yeddy.

If you do anything to please all,,, you will end up in displeasing everybody,,, What else you can expect from a Charecter like Gadkari,,, he looks more like a pimp and less like a National Party President.

BSYs new party formation is most likely will benefit leaderless corrupt congress in the state. This may be a backdoor entry to congress who is hoping on others mistakes rather than its achievements in state. A Great task ahead of currently powerful BSY. BSY must build up a steady nature and must stick on to something now. Even if he gets around 25 Nos to 50 Nos of seats he can become a vital leader. His follower leaders like Shobha etc also must stick to him. If they do not BSY may fall faster than expected . Its a possibilty he and his group may support BJP in future if they offer him CMS position. In a most unlikely scenerio he may also support JD(S)which maynot last long. Congress may not take his support at all. Its wait and watch situattion.

Whether somebody agree or not, KJP will get more seats than BJP in Karnataka. Yediyurappa cannot be taken lightly. Eshwarappa, Ananth Kumar are jealous of Yediyurappa and hence they wanted his outster from Chief Ministership. Why are these people not pressing for outster of Nitin Gadkari who is a corrupt politician? Different set of rules for different rules and this will ocst BJP dearly in the coming assembly elections. So, BJP MLA's from Mangalore, Krishna Palemar, Yogish Bhat think twice whether you want to be in BJP or will go with Yeddy. Kundapura anyway is not BJP seat now as Halady Srinivas Shetty is out of BJP. Karnataka voters need to vote carefully this time. They have to vote for the best candidate among Congress, BJP, KJP and Janata Dal. Hope the good people win and rule Karnataka in the coming election and also at the Center.

Bye Bye Yeddiurappa. See you at the coming elections.

Your new party's name : Karnataka Jokers Party ( KJP ) seems appropriate for your style of functioning. Good luck to you always.

I fully endorse the views by Dr.S.Kamath.Yedyurappa is a fighter politician of Karnataka.I still remember the days in 2008 when government lead by Kumaraswamy under BJP/JDS 20:20 agreement wherein Mr.Kumaraswamy cheated BJP and denied power transfer.Yedyurappa fought alone by touring the entire state restlessly with thundering voice aginst cheaters.Though I do not support corruption by poliiticians,in Yediyurappa's case it was again malafide intention by Justice Santhosh Hegde and minig report was prepared on dotted lines which brought down the leader.Had the person accused was from Congress, definitely he would have got "clean chit" soon as we are seeing now.
Yedyurappa is a born leader/fighter and wish he will be in CMs chair in Karnataka once again. Many comments were against my views expressed earlier in another similar news forgetting that today we havee to candidates within from more corrupt and less corrupt.I wish him good days ahead.

Hello Mr. Yeddy, I am Edward and people call me EDDY.
Just wanted to know if there is a deeper plot in all this. Perhaps win as many seats in the coming elections, we get a minority government and then you provide outside support again perhaps to the BJP and then make them dance to your tunes.
I mean, I am sorry, I am not being offensive or sarcastic here, but I am sure this is the plot you're playing.Ha ha ha, good one.

People who comment against Shri BSY have never met or have listened to his speech I feel.He has lot of desire to work for the betterment of Karnataka . Every human being has negative parts but we have to try to find positive in political leaders and act accordingly .A winner never quits a Quitter never wins .All the Best Yedyurappaji I am sure you will shine in Karnataka Politics .A Great deal of Polarisation of karnataka Politics will take place in coming days .A very big loss to BJP

Yeddi will not win even 1 seat in next election. He himself will loose his deposit. All money earned will be paid back to government! "Kereya Neerannu Kerege Chelli". BJP voters will always vote for party not for person. If at all yeddi gets 10-20 votes it will be from either Congress or JDS.

Name of the game is to safeguard the ill gotten wealth and this is achieved by two means, either grab the power yourself or play the role of a king maker. This applies to vast majority of our politicians, regardless of the part they belong to, with very few exceptions.

I am surprised readers here supporting yeddi by saying he has charisma ,40 years experience etc etc . I don't agree with all that nonsense when he is corrupt and not done his job properly.
He was paid salary and all other perks to do the administration job and development and all he did was made money for himself and fighting to keep his job.
Evidence shows non of the developed countries have old experienced politicians as their leaders ! Instead they go for educated and good administrators.
It's high time we Indians stop arse licking these time waster politicians and hold them accountable for their job because its yours and my tax money that they are spending, wasting and starting new parties !

After DEVARAJ URS,I think BSY is the most Charismatic political leader of modern Karnataka.(certain extent Bangarappa also)He has 40 plus years in Karnataka politics who has vast knowledge and ups and downs in politics.Certainly, his latest move is a challenge and testing time for his political career. On the other hand,Karnataka always supported mainstream national politics but it remains to be seen how this time around responding for regional parties. We have TWO OPTIONS
    1) Communal plus corruptions in the state and National level
    2) Secular plus corruptions in Central level(not in state)

Therefore, we or like minded people look for second options
But in Karnataka, Communal BJP in one side and all other secular parties are in another side!A 5-8% tilt in the votes of BJP will bring windfall in terms of seats to oppn parties!Yeddy is a political chankya and will not accept defeat easily and like Bangarappa, he will spoil prospectus of BJP for sure.I think BJP will not cross 50 MLAs in 2014 Assembly election.

Even though I am a argent critic of Yeddy, due to his party and its group rigid ideology, one good quality Yeddy is having is ' he is a fighter' and never gives up.

He has lost his position, due to his arrogant nature with his sub ordinates as well as his seniors in the party.

NO doubt he is grass root level worker but after came to power, instead of delivering the promises to the common man, he has started luxury type five star style meeting and suddenly forgoton his grass root level workers living style. No doubt under his leadership he has brought this party to power in Karnataka and after he has left CM chair and rebelled against BJP head office, still he has also allowed to continue BJP govt in Kartnataka too. Might be the reason only Yeddy knows. One can call it, he still loved BJP which he claims that he has built it up OR he was buying time to build his new party KJP or hopeful that the Head office will fulfil his demand of reinstating him as State party Chief or CM seat which was not able to get it.

We wish Yeddy all the best and KJP too.

My Personal Opinion... He was the Man for BJP since 40 years. But its truth and fact that he was not the Only person to bring BJP to power in Karnataka..(JDS is equally responsible).. After coming to power he and his team has looted Karnataka as it was done in past years.. Everyone knows this and its common since independence.

I would give him a chance again!!! (Considering the biggest fact no politicians are clean)

Yella Namma hane baraha... and no one can change this...
