Mumbai: Yakshagana Kala Award Organized by Billawa Association

Mumbai, Sep 21: The 2012 Yakshagana Kala Award instituted by Jaya C Suvarna in memory of his mother late Acchu C Suvarna was held at Billawa Bhavan in Santacruz (East) here on Thursday September 20.

The award ceremony was presided by LV Amin, Billawa association president.

Surendra A Poojary, president of Saikar logistic limited, Jaya C Suvarna, HBL Rao, president of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Maharashtra, Shalini Rajiv honored prominent Yakshagana artist Rajiv Dharmasthala from Sri Guru Narayana Yakshagana Group with the ‘2012 Yakshagana Kala Award’.

A cheque of Rs 10,000 along with certificate was granted to him.

Speaking on the occasion, Jaya C Suvarna said that Yakshagana can only be survived if people support it and i have done the same by sponsoring the award ceremony.

He lauded the contributions made by Sri Guru Narayana Yakshagana Group particularly Rajiv Dharmasthala for his contributions towards Yakshagana folk.

He also congratulated the Billawa association for encouraging the traditional Yakshagana and advised everyone to follow the same.

On the occasion, ‘Glance at the life of Jaya C Suvarna’, a book on the life of Jaya C Suvarna published by Guru publications was presented to Surendra Poojary by Jaya C Suvarna.

As part of the programme, Sri Guru Narayana Yakshagana Mandali performed ‘Thamra Dwaja Kaalaga’ and ‘Panchavati’ Yakshagana.

CT Salian, cultural secretary welcomed the gathering, Jyoyhi K Suvarna, chief secretary compered and Dharmapal G Anchan, honorary secretary delivered vote of thanks.

Bhaskar V Bangera, honorary chief treasurer, Shakunthala Kotian, Surendra Kumar Hegde, president of Sanathana Vedike, B Muddu Anchan, Dr Eshwar Alevooru, Harish K Hejamadi among others were present.
