Mangalore: WC Chief says Victim Boys' Background 'Suspicious', Hints at Trafficking

Mangalore: WC Chief says Victim Boys' Background 'Suspicious', Hints at Trafficking

Mangalore, Aug 2: In a surprising statement, state Women's Commission chief C Manjula on Thursday August 2 said that background of two of the boys who were assaulted by HJV activists on last Saturday at Padil resort was 'suspicious'. She also hinted at involvement of girl trafficking racket.

Speaking to mediapersons at the circuit house, she said that she had spoken to two of the girl victims and their parents. The girls were not familiar with the two boys and had gone to the resort on the invitation of another girl, she said.

She said that the two girls had gone in their college uniforms, and were made to change to party clothes at the resort.

"Hence, though the two girls were innocent, the background of the boys, Gurudutt and Vijayakumar, should be investigated," she said, alleging that Gurudutt's mother was involved in trafficking in 2009.

"This practice of partying has spoilt the girls. I will send a policy proposal to the government seeking strong action against trafficking of girls. There is a big trafficking network in the state, and every year, around 200-300 girls go missing," she said.

She also added that the girls and their parents were upset about repeated TV footage of the incident, and demanded that channels should stop it immediately.

On Morning Mist Home Stay, she said that eight months ago locals had given an oral complaint to the police about illegal activities going on in there, but nothing was done. "Police inaction is the reason why this incident took place," she asserted.

On those who had carried out the attack, she said that 15 have been arrested and 12 more will be caught soon. She called for strong police action against them and said that they should be booked goonda act.

On counter questions from mediapersons, Manjula chose not to divulge into details on organizations like HJV and did not comment on the culprits, but instead blamed police for not taking action on the complaints against the home stay.

She further said that there was no point in blaming the government as it was the duty of local bodies and the police to take action when complaint was made about illegal activity in the resort.

On a question whether she will put pressure on the government to ban HJV if it is found guilty, she evaded direct answer and said that as investigation is on, she cannot judge and that further action will depend on the final report.

Manjula said she will be speaking to Mangalore University vice-chancellor and study the situation regarding students indulging in such activities.

She will visit the city next week again and hold talks with college managements on the issue and on reports that some of them had barred the students from sitting for exams, she informed, adding that she has already prepared a report on the issue and will be submit it to the home ministry.

Officials concerned have been instructed to probe the incident carefully and reports will be forwarded to the chief minister and the home minister in the meeting to be held in Mysore, she said.

Women's Commissioner member Maithali and others were present.

When I read Ms. Manjula's statement I remember the story when I was small kid.

A lamb was drinking water in a stream. A jackal, which was on the upper side of the stream wanted devour the lamb, so started to think some reason to do so. The jackal shouted at the lamb saying that why do you contaminate my water with your saliva. Then the lamb said, how can I contaminate your water, when I am on the down stream whereas you you are on the upper and things are quite opposit of what you say. The jackal jumped on the lamb and devoured it, saying if you have not contaminated the water, it is your parents have done it.

Likewise Ms. Majula has brought boys' parents into the picture. A senseless lady indeed.

This woman is an idiot. She would not speak like this if her daughter was the one who was beaten and molested and hurt. The boy was beaten up. That is not the way a person should be treated. I grew up and studied in Mangalore. One of the most beautiful towns and education hubs you can get great education from.
It is a shame a woman in this position gives a talk like this.
We had parties in colleges. Innocent parties. Students having a good time. Not every party needs to be about drugs or girl trafficking.
There have been friends invited to parties at places the friends may never have been before. It was an innocent party and students gathering together. You need to socialise. We are a devoloping country. Live and let live and in peace. Not stupid monkeys thinking they are the towns disciplining police. That is pure assault and abuse and the criminals should be punished to the fullest extent.
I hate to read what is going on in the otherwise peaceful, beautiful town of Mangalore with great people living there.
Where is this lady Manjula from? She is Nuts? I do not think she has a clue about student life or normal socialising of students.
We have had so many parties with no alcohol, no drugs, no trafficking. Just plain fun and dancing ,having a good time. YOu do not need to do anything illegal to have a good time.
It is a shame. My heart goes out to all the girls and boys who were beaten and abused just because the crazy men of Padil decided they can do so. I also wish the families and institutions they study at,to give all the support and love they can to these students . They are clearly victims.I hope you guys recover from this and there is justice for you. No individual should go through this. It hurts to watch the video. Very disturbing.
We are praying for you. Hope you recover and try to leave this behind and achieve what you can in life.
Very evident with the Video the Padil men were trying to make it look as suspicious as possible.
    It is not.Goodluck

    Ms. Manjula,
Do not try to expose something which is irrelevant OR else you will be exposed completely…..! … where you will not have the place to hide your face………..????
You have come for the purpose of getting justice to the victims. Please do not torture them with your meaningless comments.
We don’t want your filthy thought & comments about the background of the victims.
Do you know what is the background of the those terrorists?. It may be possible that you are also one among them.
Do you know the background of your mother & your family? You have not come here to investigate somebody’s background…. Remember that…
If you really honest & restore the peace in Mangalore & nearby districts, please do the following:
Arrest all the leaders & the members of Rama Sene, Bajarng Dal, HJV etc. They are the one who started all terrorism in Mangalore. Arrest them & check their background take severe action without wasting time & money.
Also, please your narrow minded brain “ How Mangalore & other nearby districts were so beautiful & peaceful BEFORE THE EXISTANCE OF RAMA SENE, BAJARANG DAL, HJV ETC. a few years back.

    2) If someones parent or relative has some criminal records doesnt make victim a criminal as per the indian law and order no one has rights to make such comments just because some ones relative is involved in any kind of criminal record.
    3) Even if these people were involved in any kind of unlawful deeds no man has rights to molest women even a sex worker.
So lets be clear people at any circumstance this act is not appreciated and no excuse for such "moral policing"

Loads of comments and tens of articles by renowned writers just becoz attackers were deemed to belong to a community. What is attracting people to comment and write articles with the mask of justice and equality for women ,is more becoz it involves a community related organisation. What if no organisation was named here and attackers involved people from different communities? would the action have attracted this amount of critism and discussions? Why dont people just look beyond what media tries to show?.a b'day of just 7 members in a homestay ? why not if one of the members residence when the parents are so liberal in thoughts these days? or at some restaurant(every famous one in m’lore is ready to arrange one and that too at much lesser cost than what they would pay at this resort ? To all you guys who keep asking what if your daughter ,sister or mother was a victim of such attack?
The answer is- we would first teach our daughter ,sister and mother that these guys who plan such events at such remote places are not your brother, cousin or father to protect you from such unexpected troubles.

We would first tell our mother, daughter or sister that society is not going to accept any of your justifications when you are victims of such situations which is more than self invited.
We would tell that those who actually write comments supporting this wrong trend developing in our society are the first ones who will cross check for a social background manners when your proposal for marriage is comes forward for their brother or son .
Lot of commentators here are of the policy “Vedantha helodakke badane kai thinodake.”
Now my question to all the guys who keep saying” your mother daughter sister”-will you accept victims of such incidents when you are hunting for prospective proposals as your daughter in law, mother in law or sister in law ?

Such loose statement by a responsible State Women's Commission chief C Manjula to the media under the influence of BJP Govt, to divert the attention, was in bad taste. Her careless statement will destroy the future of these girls.
The Women Forum and the Parents Association of the colleges in the district should unite and oppose the statement made by Mrs. C. Manjula to the press. Further , she is carefully chose not to divulge into details on organizations like HJV and did not comment on the culprits, but instead blamed police for not taking action on the complaints against the home stay. I request the Forum to demand the local MP and MLAs to intervene, take action against State Women's Commission chief C Manjula and protect the daughters of this district who were the victims to the Goondas like Subhash Padil & Associates. Subhash Padil, initially a Bajrang Dal member, joined Sri Rama Sene in the year 2008. Later, he joined HJV, and carried out the Saturday birthday bash assault with his friends as far from Thokkotu & Bajpe. Subhash Padil was booked by the Mangalore Rural Police for rioting in the year 2005, damaging property in 2006, rioting again in 2009 and 2011.
The prime reason for the incident was that these activists suspected that Muslim boys were partying with Hindu girls hence like the Pub Attack they called the local TV Channels and mercilessly bashed these youths in front of the camera for publicity.
I request the Women Forum of DK or Mangalore to take all these girls for immediate counseling and see that none of them take any drastic step due to such loose talk by the State Women's Commission. If any of them does, the State Women's Commission chief C Manjula should be held responsible and she should be prosecuted.
    Jai Hind!

If Father & Mother not teach good habits to the kids, local people with teach them (tande taayi buddi kalisadiddare janare buddi kalisiyaru) most of the comments blame HJV, Govt. If the character of the two boys were suspicious they would not have come out openly and faced the people and media. They would have simply disappeared like the other victims who were present there. It is high time parents come out openly and support their children when they are attacked for no fault of theirs. And if they have no guts to do that then I really pity the children. They will have to turn to somebody else for protecting supporting and safeguarding them.

Tell me, why no such incidents happen to girls in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata and Chennai? Does it mean that girls in other cities do not attend parties? Or, is it that sangh parivar elements think twice to operate in other cities and instead operate with brazen impunity in Mangalore, because they have powerful godfathers in the Karnataka BJP governement?

Hello! Manjula Madam, the way you are making statements, its high time we check your background also and see if you are fit for the post you are holding. The history of the victims or their parents or of the Morning Mist is secondary, why are you diverting from the main topic. You seem to be another BJP Agent sent here to make irrelevant remarks. If the Boy's Mother's Background is suspicious it is for Police to investigate. If the Morning Mist had nboi licence then what were the Municipal Authorities doing?? Sleeping?? You have come here on a purpose please stick to that and make a strong case against the attackers so that they are severely punished and others like them dont even ever think of doing these things again.

Dear Mrs. Manjula, Surprising to read the comments from such a big officers like you, here taking out the history of the students or the parents or how the students are invited to the party directly or indirectly is really secondary. The issue is not the past, the solutions is to investigate on the current incident. By hearing such press address one thing is clear that even this time the justice will not be done. The Govt. wants to twist the case once again and find the ways to free the culprits. BJP will never improve it’s just like a dog’s tail… Manjula’s visit to Mangalore is really waste of time and the statement is really useless... Her statement also shows her incapability.

If she came here to investigate the background, she is not fit for her job. Can she look at our former chief minister Yeddyurappa on SUSPICIOUS mind as he was in jail and so many cases pending on him? She has dented the morale of everybody through her statement. Very sad!

    Unfortunate,
The real issue is bashing up of woman by goons, where the WC is called upon. The other issue the police will investigate. Why simply divert the real issue? Was 2009 pub attack also human trafficking and suspicious behavioral issue? than why are the culprits out?We saw recently that police was raiding the massage parlous, than if the complaint has be lodged against this "morning mist tourist resort" police would have certainly raided. Just to divert the media/ Public glare on the real issue these things are highlighted, like registrations, suspicious behavior, trafficking. Hope at least this time the victims get justice and these goons will not come out easily like last time.

I think she wants to divert the situation... She has not uttered a word about the attackers action towards the woman.. what is her role when she has to investigate the attacks on the woman what is the necessity of telling the world what was the boys mother was doing... The so called boys mother case was dismissed in the court and police had no proof to show about the spa doing any unethical activity... Mangalore police was caught on camera while placing the condoms and falsely charging the spa owner in another case
Then how can she prove what police are telling or doing is true? What is her intention and relation to this case
It is not her duty to condemn the act and punish the criminals. It is
not her duty to see women's safety if a woman is a prostitute too. Being a woman commission chief can she ignore the prostitutes if they dragged, raped and abused..
WHAT is your role ?Mrs Manjula.....
    Stop acting do some constructive

As expected..not surprised at all. Let them investigate boys. Check their conduct at college. If they are not at fault, then case should be filed against Manjula and she should be sent to jail. If we go to party, we may not know everybody. I attend parties but I generally don't know everyone personally. We get introduced during the party by the host. That doesn't mean that illegal trafficking is going on. Those girl's attend the party are mature enough to know what is good and what is bad. And these goons need not teach anyone about our culture. Need of the hour is first ban these terrorist organisations. Take strict action against these goons and their supporters. Sad thing is police and womens commission acting according to the BJP government of Karnataka which is very dangerous situation. I am not defending the young boys and girls who attended the party. If they are at fault, they too should be punished but by court of law and not by these goons..These goons are not the custodians of our culture. These goons are spoiling our cordial relationship. Tomorrow these goons may attack even if husband and wife or brother and sister are walking on the road.

Whaaat ????...Dear Manjula Madam, history of boy & his parents or girls & the liscense of Morning mist is secondory here. Let a saperate body do investigation on this. I heard one of the boys mother run a SPA center somewere in Chilimbi which was raided by police couple of years back for some alleged imoral activities there. But just the history of the people or the family or the liscense status of the place does not permit any street dogs to tress pass any property and lay hands on girls no matter how moral or immoral the accupants are. The need of the hour is a strong chargesheet for tress pass, assault, attept to rape & murder & burglary finally counting to GOONDA act. As a WC chief your first motive should be making a strong case agianst those goons for what they did to the girls. Rest all secondory. Please dont give irrelevent press statements at this stage.
