Mangalore: Another Breakthrough - Three More Arrested for Resort Attack

Mangalore, Jul 31: In a fresh breakthrough, the police on Tuesday July 31 succeeded in arresting three more in connection with the attack on Morning Mist Home Stay resort.

The arrested are Varun Poojary (20) of Vamanjoor, Punith (19) of Kudupu, and Kiran Poojary (20) of Malali Matti, Kaikamba.

Varun, Punith, Shailesh, Sandeep, Rajesh


Kiran, Venugopal, Taranath Jelligudde, Sunil, Taranath Padil

They too are said to be member of Hindu Janajangrana Vedike which carried out the attack on Saturday July 31.

With this, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to 15.

Four of them - Shailesh Jalligudde (23) of Bajal, Harish Kembar (25) of Alape, Chethan (25) of Nagori and Sunil (24) of Thokkottu were arrested on Monday July 30.

Eight others - Rajesh Panjibail (29) of Shaktinagar, Taranath Alva (45) of Padil, Subhas Padil (36) of Veeranagar, Munna Ganesh (27) of Kannur Perla, Sharat Perlaguri (29) of Radhakrishna Nagar,Padavinangadi; Venugopal Karmar (44) of Padil, Sandeep Shetty (29) of Amblamogaru and Taranath Perla (28) of Kannur - were arrested soon after the incident.

All the arrests were made by city crime branch (CCB) police led by inspector Venkatesh Prasanna.

The 12 who were arrested earlier have been rewarded judicial custody till August 13.

It is said that the arrests were made based on the statements given by those who were already caught before, and also with the help of the video footage of the incident.

On July 28, the activists broke into the resort where 13 youngsters were celebrating a birthday party and assaulted boys and girls. The issue has snowballed into a ranging debate, with students and public going on protests and political parties condemning the attack. However, the convener of HJV denied that his group was involved in the attack, and chose to shift the blame on Padil residents.

In the beginning, before bringing media into Home stay House the Hindu Jaagarana Vedhike/HJV attackers garnered support from locals and media in the name of anya janaangadhavaru/some other community spoiling Hindu girls and for this reason Padil Cooperator was involved in protest on the spot.

The locals opined before the media that they have not seen any kind of such parties before and when these HJV came only they came to know the party is going on.
1) How then the locals say before they have complained to concerned authorities and nobody have taken action?
2) Initially the media supported attackers showing entire faces of the girls (one girl is a brave one she never showed the face to the media) and the Police listened the version of HJV members and the Police were also against the Home Stay birth-day party celebrators, followed and acted upon the words of HJV.
3) Why the Law Enforcement/L.E are blaming the media without taking action impartially on the spot?!
4) Why the L.E/Police arrested the Birthday party celebrators knowing fully no drug was found.
5) Why they allowed HJV members to beat, defame, throw, push girls forcibly on the beds and the Police are mute spectators instead of calming down the situation.
IF THE MEDIA AND THE PUBLIC WERE MUTE SPECTATORS LIKE THE POLICE THIS CASE WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST A FART NOTHING ELSE.

The attackers were taught to terrify the girls virtually it looks the attackers are the terrorists. If this case is let loose then think that our judiciary and law enforcement is only a corrupt version of draaaama obtainable in the market.

After watching the photos of these boys one can wonder what protection they can give to the culture?One can easily read them.They are looking either or under educated,misguided,unemployed and anti social guys working for easy money,to enjoy.How a respectful Hindu can consider them as their culture protectors?There is no cultured gentlemen to protect our culture?How long one can protect culture by violence and force? Keegan, the fact that Subhash is your childhood friend doesn't change the fact that this so called "good" guy has grown up to be a monster.

More so, your reasoning that these guys have been brainwashed or used by others doesnt change the fact that what these rascals have done was barbaric, inhumane & uncalled for.

God has given us amazing reasoning power which is a remarkable trait in all human beings which differentiates us from other animals. When we as responsible human beings become part of the so called extremist groups like the RSS, BD, VHP, ULFA, MULFA, MUJAHIDEEN etc we become slaves of these scoundrels & getting brainwashed becomes part & parcel of the whole package.It really is our choice to be "used" or "abused".

Now since these goons have been arrested (i am sure, many others are still hiding)what we do next will decide what will happen to our kids in the near future.

Mangaloreans, lets stay united. Ensure that justice is served to these boys & girls. Let no impotent group take law in its hands at the cost of molesting & abusing our kids from our families...be it a christian, hindu or a muslim.

Hello readers,

I'm not taking anyones side as both point of view, even HJV was correct on one side and students did commit mistake. According to the news which I got was something like, Morning Mist was a place where all late night parties were held. Its obvious that all rich kids come and party there and the regular haftha used to reach to the station. The neighbours of this Morning Mist used to call police station complaining about the late night parties with no response from the cops. However, bad luck of the students that on the same day the attack was arranged as localites requested the HJV to go and check on them. As in the other comments mentioned, the activists went out of the control looking at the girls who were half dressed.

Though myself & everyone condemns the nature of attack, most don't raise voice on nature of functioning of the Resorts, the nature of activities, etc.

Most of these sort of Resorts, function as base for immoral activities as drug tafficking, nudity & obsesity, immoral trafficking, etc. In most cases, they carry licence only for Homestay, & never a licence for immoral activities, as this is a case. Resorts with descent evironment perhaps is not liked by many here. Would these blind commenting people every support their female relatives to go to these sort of parties ? Moreover the story can be clearly understood as to why youngsters choose a remote resort & that too a very expensive one for birthday party. Will a birthday party be carried with nudity ? The answer is very clear, most youngsters prefer these sort of immoral activities as drug tafficking, wine & women in the name of celebration or birthday parties. Of course, they have great number of people supporting them moraly as many writers here or most of so called advanced media or buddhijeevis or some religious leaders. Unfortunatly people are carried away with the news of thrashing than the ground reality.

Both the activities are equally to be condemned as thrashing women, & immoral activities of 'wine & women', drug tafficking, etc. Media is also to be blamed, for blowing news out of proportion, & creating more panic. The greed for getting good TRP rating, make channels to run behind the news 24x7. If media knew the news in advance, why they didn't object at the time of attacking, & went on with massive coverage of incident. So channels are equaly guilty & has to be brought before law.

This is nothing but a crime committed directly or indirectly, knowingly or unknowingly, by activists, by students, by media, & by viewers(who look for more such news than peace).

Other side of the story- neighbors and media people must have hired these gundas offering drinks and money "radd hakad bale" bokka thuka. You can check the video where neighbors complaining to the police about activities taking place in the resort "morning mist". Media people must have instigated more to get the hot news. They never thought of reputation of peace loving Mangalore

Would media allow if their own sister was there .Neighbors are equally responsible for this heinous crime instead of calling police. Our heads hang in shame. These gundas are ruthless and should be given severe punishment for taking law in to their own hands.

Some readers were commenting that they look like criminals and terrorist. A person becomes criminal by deeds and crimes and not by looks. If you go by looks every 2nd person looks like a criminal. Only by good education and upbringing we can minimize crimes.

(1) Dr. S, Kamath - Mumbai - Very noble idea of your relative to start a RESORT with Gandhian Values - the presnt BJP governmnet could have used it for their frequent"RESORT" Politics. Anyway, as you said the venture failed he could have very well have turned this into a Hospital for the poor (you said he lost crores - so he must be filthy rich) he can still use the place to start a Primary school to give basic education to these Goons if not to the general public. Dear Readers of DW. At the outset I must congratulate DW for publishing the photographs of the culprits who involved in the resort attack. Look at the photos of these culprits. They are second none to thugs theives and criminals. From the series of articles publihed on the subject incident, it is quite evident that in the name of moral policing, these criminals went to this resort just to molest the girls and enjoy some fun. Their whole intention of visiting resort is well known to every body now. This is high time that the authorities must immediately ban HJW. All the arrested criminals must be dealt with all the severity, so that they cannot think of doing any thing wrong even in their dreams.

We have produced Ms. Worlds and Mr. Worlds from Mangalore and so many celebrities those who act in Bollywood and Hollywood. Dear Dr Kamath,Mumbai.
I am sad that your relation who spent crores to put up a resort near Mangalore has had to close down because he had a No Alcohol/ no unmarried couples policy.
Well, I was at a resort not too long ago close to Mangalore and the bearers said that this policy existed but that they would get beer for us from a shop closeby- which I may say we got as it was a very hot afternoon in summer.
So much for policy- who really ensures that the owners orders are followed.

Take a close look at the pics/video footage and you’ll know their true intention. They are sexually starved riffraff who in reality can’t even afford cheapest of prostitutes and when they get a free opportunity to lay their filthy hands on the fairer sex of their fantasies, they behave in this manner. If law is not enforced now, it won’t be a surprise to see repetition of the incident.
