Mangalore, Jun 17:
Heavy rains continued to lash the city on Saturday June 16, lasting all night. The intensity was relatively less on Saturday afternoon, but enough to inundate several low-lying areas in the city.

Areas like Subrahmanya and Suratkal received good rainfall, while in Ullal, Kinnigoli and Mulky it was average.

Artificial floods were witnessed near City Hospital, Jeppinamogeru and Mahakali Padpu areas.

Commuters near Mahakali Padpu and Jeppinamogeru faced tough times with water levels on the roads reaching knee-high.

Udupi: Heavy down pour occurred in many areas of the district. Good rainfall was recorded in Kundapur in the evening of Saturday, so also in Karkala.

When there is heavy rains there is drainage problem. So MCC has to to be ready and be prepared for the consequences. There is no point in taking precautionary measures just when the rain starts. This happens every year and the poor people have to suffer in many ways. Pictures by Dayanand Kukkaje and Spoorthi Ullal were fantastic and this is an eye opener for the MCC.

    Dear Sir,

    Re : ‘Flood in Attavar’

We are resident of 5th cross Attavar ward, Mangalore, there are around 400 to 500 houses nearby. Every year during rainy season we face a problem of flood of 3 to 4 feet and level is rising year after year. There is little or no provision for rain water drainage in the whole area and the water from the major part of the city accumulates and collects in this region which includes 5th cross and 6th cross and a vast surrounding area.

    Damage caused :
The damage is to the tune of more than Rs 30 Lakhs during each flood.More than 150 to 200 vehicles got affected, many houses lost their valuable things such as food articles, cloths, wooden furniture, consumer durables such as TVs, Fridges, washing machines, inverters, electronic items which got affected or damaged in each of these flood.
‘Drainage water mixes with flood’ and which has caused many infections.
A colony of poor people living here got affected severely and have lost everything during these flood.
Nearby KMC Hospital, Attavar which nurses hundreds of in and out patient everyday is facing flood situation, all the vehicles got stopped, even the emergency vehicle or patient cannot move in the region to reach the hospital.

    Possible solutions / suggestions : -

    1. Nearly 5 kms of existing rain water drainage need to be cleaned which
has collected nearly 3 to 4 feet of garbage and silt which has not been cleaned and maintained MCC.
2.There is a need of new rain water drains to be planned to divert the flow.

MCC has promised to clear the silt but has been not done till now.

    With Regards,

    Attavar Residents,Mangalore

ARTIFICIAL FLOOD IS EVERYWHERE IN THE CITY. THIS IS THE RESULT OF THE EFFICIENCY OF OUR ENGINEERS SITTING AT MCC. CORPORATORS ALSO HAVE TO CLAIM THE CREDIT OF THIS.

MCC WAS WELL PREPARED TO TACKLE WITH THE SITUATIONS. LETS WAIT AND WATCH HOW THEY DOES IT . ANYHOW , IT WILL BE A BUMPER SEASON FOR ALL THE ENGINEERS IN MCC,CORPORATORS AS WE AS CONTRACTORS.

    LET THEM ENJOY..
