Minor Girl Rescued from Forced Marriage to UAE National, Four Arrested

Daijiworld Media Network

Hyderabad, Sep 7: A minor girl was recently rescued after being forced into marriage to a UAE national. Further investigations revealed that her sister too had been married off to the same person's relative.

The police who are probing the matter found that the 16-year-old girl's elder sister too had been earlier married to the man's relative. However, it is not sure whether she too was married as a minor.

Those arrested in connection to this case are the 47-year-old UAE national Hilal Saeed Mohammed, the girl's parents Mohammed Waheeduddin and Parveen Sultana and Awan Bin Salam Barawas, the qazi who performed the marriage. Waheeduddin is a florist.

Police revealed that Hilal flew into Hyderabad and got married to the 16-year-old girl on the same day.

What puzzled the police was how Hilal could fix his marriage so soon from UAE to someone at Hyderabad, unless he had a previous connection. This is what led them to discover the girl's sister's marriage to Hilal's relative.

South zone DCP Vinieet Brijlal said, "It is confirmed that the florist's elder daughter was married to another foreigner. We're verifying the details and will initiate action depending on the findings."

Hilal's maternal uncle who is also from UAE, had accompanied him to the city to fix the alliance and make arrangements for the marriage.

It is learnt that Hilal's uncle was witness in the present case and claimed that the florist's daughter was aged about 24 years when he married her.

"According to the Muslim Marriage Act the marriage can take place in the presence of only two adult males and two adult females. If all of them have agreed to the proposal, along with the bride and the groom, then the marriage gets accomplished. Even at the time of divorce only if the husband pronounces ‘talak’ three times then he can get a divorce with his wife. The rituals among the Shias and the Sunni Muslims may differ but the difference is not much.

The Muslims believe that a person can get married at the age of 15 as at that time one attains puberty. According to the Muslim Marriage Act, the person has to have a sound mind or the guardians of the person should sign the contract in order to accomplish the marriage between the two.."

    Nagesh Nayak,

Why are you asking for intervention of Sonia Gandhi or Renuka Choudhry when a minor is married in Hyderabad ? Why are you quiet when over 200 girls as young as 6 years old and boys are married in Rajastan on Akshaya Thrithiya each year ? For you RSS goons continue ruling your womenfolk (as is the case in Karnataka) is just fit ! Then you go into hibernation - no calling for Sonia or Renuka !

Child marriage is rampant in rural India and the police look in the other direction and just blink at it. This has nothing to do with religion. The moderately rich but backward Arabs from UAE exploit the poverty situation in the region like South Asia, South-East Asia, Africa etc and hunt for young girls as second or third wife and purchase them from their poor ignorant parents for a price. The poor parents feel that it is better to give their daughters to a known old man who will provide a moderately good living than being exploited by some underworld flash trading cartel.
The situation is nothing but “the Survival of the fittest” story.
Hope by 9% GDP the Govt will bring inclusive growth and uplift such victims so that they too will have basic living standard.
    Jai Hind!

Shame on the girl's parents.  Why these people give birth to children? To sell? Is this a kind of business? This shows that a human being can go to any extent for money. Give them a strong punishment.

The important point to see in the investigation of this marriage episode to UAE national is whether this incident is isolated one or under the clutch of Mafia or not? Most of the foreign marriages of Indian girls are takes place due to economic reason. In India underage marriage are null and void, punishable under law.The final outcome of this marriage might be stateless children, Divorce, wrangling in custody of children etc etc...
