Mangalore, Jul 13: Sri Vishweshteertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt has called off his fast against land notification under Mangalore SEZ, the additional deputy commissioner handed over a letter from the government relating to government's earlier announcement to denotify the 1998 acres of land for the second phase.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday July 13, the Pejavar Swamiji spoke on the issue of UPCL plant at Udupi and urged the committee studying the environment affects to submit its report by October 2. The seven-member committee, comprising two environment experts K V Ramchandra and Y V Ramakrishna, should give an unbiased report on the matter, he said, and warned that if the report reveals any danger to environment from UPCL, he will intensify his protest.

He expressed his happiness over the cancellation of notices of lands acquired for the second phase of SEZ works, and said that it would be model for the rest.

He further said that in the north Karnataka too the lands should be de-notified. It is the government's reponsibility to see that agricultural land is not affected - it should take up industrial development works only on barren lands and on its own lands, he said.

He denied that it was because of him that the government had bowed down. "It is the farmers' fight, I only stood by them," he said.

Regarding the 15.3 acres of land and another four acres acquired in Kudubi, where farmers are facing similar problems, he said the matter will be handled separately and justice will be done.

He also expressed his readiness to join in the fight agains Posco steel plant, if his help was sought.

He urged the government to follow the example of Gujarat, where development is taking place but not at the cost of farmers.

Jubilant farmers who gathered in large numbers in support of Swamiji welcomed the government's move and Swamiji's success by bursting crackers.

Earlier News:

Bangalore, Jul 13: The state Government on Tuesday July 12, made an announcement that it has de-notified the 1998 acres of land which was notified earlier for the second phase of Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ).

With this move of the Government, the constant protests of Pejavar Mutt Seer, Sri Visweshateerta Swamiji with the help of local people has made an impact with Government bowing down to the protesters.

Though the high level committee of the Government had taken the decision on June 26 itself, the final order was not issued. So the protest of Pejavar seer and the people continued.

Pejavar Seer on Tuesday morning warned of going on a liquid fast from June 13, if the Government fails to take decision before June 12.Following this warning, CM Yeddyurappa directed industries’ minister Murugesh Nirani to issue an order about de-notifying the acquired land.

Minister Nirani spoke to Pejavar seer over the phone and told that the Government has decided to de-notify the land and he also requested him to give away his indefinite fast. However it is gathered that the seer clarified that until the copy of Government order is not handed over to him, he will not step back from his decision of fasting.

Hence the Government in no time initiated the process of issuing the order and on Tuesday night came up with it – the notification order number: ci 306 spq 2011, Bangalore date 12/7/2011.

On Tuesday night itself the order copy was sent to the seer who left from Bangalore to Mangalore with the order copy and is expected to hold meeting with farmers and other representatives of various unions who supported him. He would also soon announce to give away the decision of going on liquid fast.

Its sickening to read the thoughts of my fellow readers, that the protest for a good cause is being watered down to a Hindu-Muslim issue. Shahnawaz swears by the constitution and its secular values, but sadly cherry picks individuals as if they do not have the right to protest. Even a hard core criminal has the right to protest under the Indian Constitution. K R Prabhu Maam, so long an "INDIAN" benefits what's your problem???

    @Rajesh/Mangalore,

Of course I am a critic of this seer but I am not a critic of hindus or hindu relgion as you mentioned. U people are just misleading the members of this forum by false propaganda which has been the agenda of your organisations since its inception.

Indian muslims are equally patriotic like any other hindu Indian and you cant call every muslim anti Indian as you profess... This land of India belongs to all its citizens irrespective of faith and belief. RSS is not the protectors of majorities of Indian population. We do have constitution and institutions to look into the affairs...

Whoever it may be, people holding respectable and top social/political/religious positions must act with more responsibility. One cant misuse his authority or position to earn the goodwill of one community and creating harm to other community...

India is country with diversity and inclusiveness. If we really want peace and live side by side as good neighbours we have to understand that we are human beings first, then Indians. No religion would come in ones way to call himself a human being or Indian.

Please dont spread hate and venom. it has no benefits and in the long run causes irrepairable loss to the society and to our great country. I personally hold Mr Advani responsible for present day rift between the communities who call themselves as Indians. Very true but very sad....

The farmers concerned must be thankful for the 'intercession' of the Pejawar Seer in getting their land 'denotified '.Now, ALL these fortunate farmers must join together& greatly improve their farming methods & demonstrate that this land has been "fertile" & render it into a 'model farming zone' far more desirable than a "petrochemical hub" under the MSEZ scheme.

It gives me pain when things going against truth, His excellency Mr. KRPrabhu,Mangalore.I never ever gone or going or will go against my Hindu brother's feelings in any forum whatever reason it may be.But I certainly against those who are anti- human and ant- society, be it from Christians,Muslims or Hindus.I certainly don't like Nityananda that does not mean I am hating .....!!!!!!!Mr Prabhu,I rate you in this column....do not misguide readers with your absurd comments.Even FYI I don't need any classification or specification or certificate in dealing with Daijiworld online news.Time and again I made it clear for the BJP supporters that criticizing BJP does not amounts hate of certain important community any way.

In this context I really really would like to thank MR ARUN CK, Mangalore, who is a learned gentleman and treasure of this platform in defending and airing my feelings openly.

As Far as Shanawaz Kukkikate concerned,he may have some prejudice against the Pajavar seer more than that I did not find any thing wrong on him as far as community concerned. However, I rate both Arun CK and S,Kukkikatte are two of the best knowledgeable contributor in this forum.

Any way I thank KRPrabhu giving me a free opportunity to justify my feelings and their by giving chance to take on his views face to face and supporting me by other readers like Mr Prabhakar Mendan Katapady Abhudhabi and Nancy Belman to whom I would like to thank them.

I do not know whether it is a victory for farmers or simply a sign things that will come ahead. Pejawar Seer with all the due respects to the work he has done to withdraw the order of denotifying the land acquisition should realise that justice should be done to everyone at least in the district like in case of Nagarjuna displaced.

In the whole struggle against the SEZ a brave and single handed fighter like Gregory Patrao must not be forgotten. I feel Gregory's fight was more logical because he decided fight legally . But Swamijee's fight seems to have won because of the religious influence of his followers. The worry is that it should not become a precedent for other cases. For all reasons people should see the reason and fight for their rights ans devide on religious lines.

I agree the comments from Prabakar mendon. Swamiji had met few days back with Yeddi and he had promised him that he will send a circular de-notification within few days so he was very sure that yeddi will do this. hence swamiji wanted to take credit on this. Hatts off to the people who have fought for this.

Religion should not be mixed with politics and business and anybody intereferes in this they are not a true personality because they talk only one side

    @KR Prabu and Arun CK.

Nobody could be more communual than this favourite seer of yours. I like and love all other saints and seers of all times, inculding the seers of Udupi ashtamutts, except this seer who has successfully instigated communual violence by funding and organizing events like samajotsava. I am a fan of Admar mutt seer who has dedicated his life for the sake of down trodeen and for the sake of education. In its eaulity, I hate and condemn those muslim priests and mullahs who preach and practice hate and venom and devide the society in the name of religion. Religion is to guide the people and for spreading understanding and love and not to spread venom and hate... You may see lots of holiness in him. Holy and pious people dont devide, They only unite and melt the hearts of the people... /thats it.

Secondly I dont need certificate from people like you about my communual or secular attributes. I know who am I and what am I...

Prabhakar Mendon, Katapadi/Abu Dhabi since you are a supporter of congress whatever state govt does good also seem to be wrong to you. When it comes to certifying people no one can certify each other. When it comes to Ismail bhai and Kukkikatte sir they will be usually first one to comment when there is some bad news about karnataka or BJP. Now where are they?? Also from next time please change your comment. Dont bring the name of RSS each and everytime without having basic knowledge of that. We are getting bored by your same repeated comments.

Once again your RSS Yeddy proved himself a irresponsible cm of karnataka.

why yeddy has not issued de-notification order before Swamiji's threat to go on fast.

It seems either Swamiji or Yeddy wants some cheap publicity.

And tell me who are you to give certificates to Mr.Kukkikatte and Ismail K Perinje on their comments. According to you those who comment in favour of Swamiji/BJP are good and rest are anti irrespective of so many golmaals by BJP.

    Dear Kr Prabhu
From the angle what I see you you shouldnt compare Ismail with Kukkikatte. Except like a typical congress supporter within him that Ismail feels Conggress is the only hope for Karnataka or India, Ismail's comments are not of any communal in nature generelly, unless sometime our Nagesh Mamu instigates him. But Shanawaz statements are the pure reflection of his half knowledge about any subject, targetting on religious sesitive issues by bringing unrelated topics expecially if the news is about some thing good or bad related to Hindus or seers or practices. He escapes from the scene whenever its time for him to eat his words and comes back after some time when Pejawar Swami's which is his favorite forum.

Even though I critcise Ismail's comments at times if I feel something against his views but his views are commendable most of the times. We are fine as far its healthy dicussions..right Ismail bhai ?.

The denotification is the right move of the Govt. It is a great honour not only to the Swamiji who is fighting for the rights of ordinary voiceless people cutting caste and religious lines but also to the common suffering people due to the menace of SEZ's which have benefitted only the Industrial Houses at the cost of citizens. In the light of the recent Supreme Court Judgment in the case of UP Land allotment case, this move of the Govt. is a welcome move.

In Delanthabettu and Permude area good numbers of families from minority community especially muslims & Christians were benifitted by the move of the Swamiji/government.
This incident should open the eyes of habitul anti-commentators of the swamiji especially Mr.Kukkikatte and Ismail K Perinje.
