Poems: 'Crumpled Paper' & 'The Interview'

November 18, 2016

Crumpled Paper

Crumpled up in the corner,
There sat a lonely wrinkled paper,
Hiding beneath its crushed surface,
Were stories untold,
Written love unrequited,
Thoughts and emotions left unexpressed,
Secrets buried and lost now forever,
Once written by a wandering man,
Stuck between ‘reality’ and ‘if’s’,
A victim of second thoughts,
Stuck in the box of undiscovered consequences,
His mind being his own worst enemy,
But what of this troubled man,
His journey rests in the unknown,
What is known to us
Is that the crumpled piece of paper shall be forgotten.

The Interview

Raced passed the reception and checked the time
Heart pumped fast enough to get a speeding ticket
At this stage nervousness was a bigger crime
I saw another man dressed smartly with no regret
He was ready to take on the world as he stood calm
Reading the morning paper he glanced at me and smiled
On the other hand I could see the sweaty droplets on my palm
He was certainly competition and my intentions turned rather wild
You see my current situation made me rather mad
I was another victim of plunging economic recession
The situation rather made me more helpless than sad
I even had to sell my car which I forgot to mention
He stood smartly in the hallway sipping his coffee
My intention was clear unlike my conscience
I decided it was wrong while nervously biting my toffee
But told myself I had no options
I ran into him and caught him off guard
Coffee spilt all over his shiny grey coat
His facial expression looked rather scarred
I apologized with the guilt in my throat
He said it was alright
Although in his eyes I could see unbelievable rage
But he didn’t give back a fight
and rushed to the pantry like a free bird out of its cage
I entered the managers cabin straight ahead
Waiting to test my new hopeful fate
The receptionist entered and asked me to wait and said
The manager had a small incident in the hallway hence he would be late.

    Dear Rachit
    Wonderful
Crumpled paper and the interview with lots of message. Great thinking. It is not only a piece of crumpled paper, but a life which is hidden with lots of stories of one's experience. When life unfolded then only one knows the hidden stories. Interview, very apt., but for a living irrespective of economic slowdown, life must go on.
Keep writing and God bless you. Great thoughts
