Sharjah: Bearys in UAE Test Athletic Skills at BCF Sports Meet

Sharjah, Apr 10: Bearys Cultural Forum (BCF) conducted its eighth annual sports meet at Wanderers Sports Club, Sharjah. The event was full of games and tournaments. Around 600 bearys from all over the UAE participated in this fun-filled sports event, which was an indication of the spirit of community and social development among them.

Dr B K Yusuf, president, BCF, Abdul Razak, former counsellor, municipal corporation, Karnataka, Shahda Noor, president, Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, M E Moolur, vice-president, BCF, Aboosalih, vice-president and chairman of Nafis Group, Latif Mulky, vice-president, BCF, Altaf, vice-president and chairman, Diamond Real Estate and Humayun, chairman of the sports committee, BCF, were the guests of honour.
 
The programme was compered by Dr Mohd Kaup, general secretary, BCF.
 
Dr B K Yusuf, Shahda Noor, Noel Almeda, former president of Karnataka Sangha Sharjah, Abdul Razak, Humayun and other guests were honoured on the occasion.

The sports event began at 10.30 am with a volley ball tournament. Cricket, kabbadi, race, relay, football, shot put and others sports were also conducted. One of the innovative elements of this sports event was that BCF gave everyone a chance to excel in the game of their choice, which generated a great deal of interest and fun.

In the cricket tournament, Nafees group won the match under the captaincy of Irshad Abu Saleh, and the runners-up was Karama Friends under the captaincy of Humayun. In the football game, Nafees group bagged the winner's trophy and Ullal Brothers were the runners-up. In the volley ball tournament, Sajpa team was the winner and Badriya Friends came second. Newmark Friends won the kabaddi tournament and Ullal Brothers were the runners-up.

The special attraction of the day was the cookery and mehendi design competitions for the ladies, which saw a variety of mouth-watering traditional beary dishes and desserts.

The BCF sports day was open for all the bearys in the United Arab Emirates. Many kids participated and several of them won prizes, certificates and medals in their respective sports events.

The sports meet was sponsored by Dr B K Yusuf, M E Moolur, Latif Mulky, Aboosalih, Altaf, Humayun, Dr Kaup, Haneef, Shahda, and all the members of the managing committee of BCF.

The prize distribution ceremony took place in the evening. Prizes, trophies, medals, certificates etc were handed over to the winners. The sports ground was equipped with all the necessary facilities such as play areas, seating arrangements, lunch, tea etc. There was a musical concert by Karavali music. The song sung by M B Akbar was melodious and the audience gave him a big round of applause.

BCF thanked BCF sports committee chairman Humayun and vice-chairpersons Rafeeq Mulky and Kabir and all other members who provided support to this event. BCF also thanked the referees for various events for taking out their valuable time in attending the event.

The members of the managing committee thanked the ladies wing coordinators and committee members, namely Mumthaz Zakir, Aasheen Kaup and others for the support rendered to the sports events.
