MRC’s Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2022 officially launched at Decathlon

Mangaluru Jul 31: The first edition of Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2022 was launched here at Decathlon on Sunday, July 31, under the auspices of Mangalore Runners Club (MRC).

Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Akshy Sridhar said, "The Mangalore Runners Club has excelled at a rapid pace by doubling its membership. Running is one of the easiest sports. Sports bring the best out of people. All you need to do is step out of your house and run. Running has benefits in all aspects of life. Marathon is ideal in Mangaluru as it’s a city with several students and professionals."

Meanwhile the dignitaries unveiled the logo and website of Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2022. Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Akshy Sridhar and managing director of MESCOM Prashanth Kumar Mishra also registered themselves for the Mangalore Marathon 2022.

President of Mangalore Runners Club Ajith Aiyappan welcomed the gathering, secretary Amar Kamath proposed a vote of thanks and Amitha D'Souza compered the event.

Prashanth Kumar Mishra, CEO of Niveus Mangalore Suyog Shetty, race director of Niveus Mangalore Marathon Abhilash Dominic and Decathlon store manager Jithesh Rai were also present.

Niveus Mangalore Marathon 2022 will take place on November 6 this year at Mangala Stadium. It aims to create a long-term community-focused running event that encourages athletes of all levels to run, to live a healthy life and improve their personal fitness. Niveus Solutions Pvt Ltd. is the event's title sponsor while Decathlon is a cosponsor.

The running path will include the scenic Tannirbhavi beach road, which stretches beyond the breathtaking horizon view, a shaded trail, and city highways. The event will have four categories - Half Marathon (21.1K), 10k, 5k and 2k Gammath run/walk designed to accommodate all levels of runners, from beginners to seasoned athletes. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in three age categories.

Running can improve one's life and is said to be the least expensive sport available. All one needs is a pair of shoes and a road or trail to get started. Mangalore Runners Club will host group runs every Sunday morning leading up to the event and will provide guidance to the novice runners.

About the Mangalore Runners Club

The Mangalore Runners Club is a diverse group of runners of all ages and abilities from various walks of life in Mangaluru. It was founded by a group of six people with a mutual passion for running. The group's goal is to bring together runners from all over town who want to live a fit and healthy lifestyle together. In just a year, this club has grown to over 150 members. The club's runners have competed in several well-known marathons, including the Tata Mumbai Marathon, the Ooty Ultra Marathon, Bengaluru Marathon and the Dandeli Ultra Marathon. A member of MRC has run 100 half marathons in a row. MRC has participated in the Hundred Days of Running challenge for several years. In addition, the team has also assisted in the organization of Mangaluru's first marathon, The Big Balipu, in 2016, the Big Balipu Virtual Marathon in 2020, and the TCS 10k virtual run in Mangaluru. Every Sunday, the group organises a run, coaches new runners, provides monthly training plans, and organises and participates in running events across the country.
