Mumbai, Mar 30: Forty-nine-year-old Mangalorean Stanislaus D’Souza, son of Agnes Wilfred D’Souza residing in Sacred Housing Society, Ramakrishna Nagar in Khar (West), died in a major fire caused by a short circuit at their residence on Tuesday March 29.

Stanislaus’s father hailed from Kallianpur in Udupi district, and his mother Agnes D’Souza hails from Urwa, Mangalore. They have been living in Mumbai for many years. Stanislaus was employed in Al-Habib Steel and Engineering Services LLC, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, for four years. He was supposed to return to Muscat on Thursday March 31, but the tragedy took away his life.

Stanislaus had gone to sleep in his room after dinner with his younger brother, who had arrived from Canada and their mother on Tuesday night. He was believed to have gone to the bathroom when the fire ignited due to short circuit and engulfed the room. Stanislaus collapsed on the floor choking as he could not open the door. The building they live in is an old structure.

The neighbours called the police and the fire brigade and the fire was extinguished on time, saving others from a major tragedy.

Stanislaus was found in an unconscious condition and was moved to Baba Hospital, Bandra (W), where he breathed his last due to multiple burns.

He was a bachelor and is survived by his mother and five brothers. The funeral will be held on Thursday March 31 evening at Sacred Heart Church, Khar (West), informed the bereaved family.

People should always take care in such fires. It is not fire but smoke is more dangerous.Change your aged wiring once in at least 10 years.80% fires are caused due to electricity.Mumbai Fire Brigade is well equipped to tackle any emergency but we need to educate people, and that's what is more important.Remember the word PAGALI,this means PA-PANI,GA-GAS and LI-LIGHT.These three are the major potential causes of Emergency.Always switched off PAGALI and say this word while locking your door.Deep condolences from MUMBAI FIRE BRIGADE.May his soul rest in
