Karnataka to buy cow urine, dung from farmers like Chhattisgarh govt

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (MS)

Bengaluru, Jul 22: The Animal Husbandry department of government of Karnataka is planning to buy urine of cow (Gomutra) from the farmers in order to help them to earn more income. The government intends to produce various products using urine and dung of cow and create more employment.

The State BJP government is going to establish at least 100 goshalas in next few months. Land is already identified for this purpose along with grazing land for cattle.

Recently, Chhattisgarh government decided to buy gomutra at Rs four per litre and cow dung at Rs 2 per kg from farmers.

Speaking to media, minister Prabhu Chauhan said, “At present, we have established goshalas. Various private maths and organizations are producing bio gas, lamps, shampoos, insecticides, ointments and other products using urine and dung of cow. When we have our own goshalas, urine and dung of cow can be collated there itself.”

The minister also said that the government has 20 to 100 acres of land for purpose of collection of dung and urine of cow. The team of Karnataka will study the Chhattisgarh government model.

“When I visited Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, I saw bio gas production from cow dung. Around 35 products are prepared at Kinneri math of Maharashtra. That is very profitable unit. If we have our own units, it will be helpful for cattle farmers,” he said.

I have been advocating such use for sometime in comments in Daijiworld whenever I got a chance. Glad that some good can come out of these which can also be used as fertilizers and biogas - which one of our Manglurkars in Bomby who had a she shop and a tannery in Borivili was using on a trial basis. It was called Primo shoe shop in Mahim, seventy years ago! Now long gone.
