Working Journalists Demand Implementation of Majithia Wage Board Recommendations

Mumbai, Mar 28: An 8-member delegation of working journalists and newspaper employees representing various organizations on Monday March  28, met the Governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan, here and demanded early implementation of the recommendations of the report of Majithia Wage Board for working journalists.

The delegation briefed the Governor that although the G R Majithia Wage Board for working journalists and other newspaper employees submitted its recommendations to the union ministry of labour and employment on December 31 2010, no decision has been taken by the union cabinet to accept the recommendations and notify the same.



Pointing out that more than 10,000 working journalists and other newspaper employees in Maharashtra have not received any substantial revision of their basic wages and other allowances since December 2000, the delegation urged the Governor to convey the grievances of the working journalists and newspaper employees to the union
government.

The Governor assured the delegation that he will convey the grievances of the delegation to union government.

Representatives of Brihanmumbai Union of Journalists, Indian National Press Group Employees Union, Maharashtra Media Employees Union, Mantralaya Vidhimandal Vartahar Sangh and Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh were present.

    The recomendations of the najithia wage boards for newspaperemployees should be notify as earliest and arrears should be from january 2008 by central govt because since the last wage board i.e. manisana wage board 12 yers already passed and the inflation of the all commodities touched the sky. Central govt accepted the 6th pay commission and implemented it, but no wage revision for newspapers employees. wage revision were overdued and employees waiting for it.
