Mumbai: Bal Thackeray Attacks PM for Cricket Diplomacy

Mumbai, March 28 (IANS) Problems between India and Pakistan have continued despite cricket match invitations, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray said Monday, while attacking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for inviting the Pakistani president and prime minister to the World Cup cricket semi-final between the two countries.

"If Pak President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani can be invited to watch the Mohali cricket match in the name of peace, why should injustice be done to Kasab and Afzal Guru? They should also be given tickets and invited to watch the match on Wednesday," Thackeray sarcastically commented in a sharp editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamna, referring to the main accused in the 26/11 Mumbai and the parliament terror attacks.

For years, he said, Pakistani leaders, starting from (the late) Gen. Zia-ul Haq and Gen. Parvez Musharraf, have been coming to India to watch cricket matches in the name of peace.

However, the problems persisted and India has continued to be a target of terror attacks perpetrated by terrorists from across the border.

"However, instead of adopting a stern attitude against the enemy country, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh himself is sprinkling salt on the wounds inflicted by the terror," Thackeray wrote.

In the initial years of Sena's forming Mr Thackeray has become a terror to all South Indians. Lungi uthao pungi bajao was his slogan. Ask anyone who is working for Udipi hotel at that particular times. I have seen his witnessed his party's terrorism in Mumbai during 1967-68. The Q is who is calling whom as a terrorist.

Hold on guys. There is no need to carried away by Bal Thackeray's comments. He is a spent force now and even Maharastrians do not trust him any more.

Rather than doing any good to the country, he has only divided Maharastrians and others in Maharashtra and Hindus and other religion in the country.

His goons live merrily by looting and terrorising others. These goons were hiding when terrorists attacked Mumbai. This man will protect each and everybody if provided with protection money as being done by other gangsters.

You being the first commentator I would like to address your concerns point by point:
Firstly, Instead of asking Mr. Bal to keep quiet I think it is best that you please keep quiet simply because Mr. Bal has some valid point.
Secondly, instead of hoping that others would understand what you are saying, try to understand that there is no such thing as “revolutionized peace” as one word. It is either revolution or peace. They can not function together
Finally, who has promised you that Kasab will be hanged. Please let us know when and what are they waiting for.
Expression of opinion and facts is not hatred. There is always a thin line between appreciation, criticism & hatred, which depends on which side of the fence you are on.
I fully endorse Hisham Ahmad’s view

    Dear All readers,

Why is all this mess in the reader's forum? Why should we blame our neighbors when we have hardcore terrorist within our own land. How many innocents are still in jail for no reason and actually saffron outfit is behind several terrorist acts which is now proved and accepted by the group leaders. So, terrorism has neither religion nor land.

We have seen such saffron terrorist attacking churches and holy places, college students etc. in Mangalore and coastal Karnataka. These terrorist organizations have safe heavens in Karnataka now.

Wars will be lost if we use our hearts they will be won if we use our brains. Manmohan Singh for once after a long time did the right thing in sending the invitation but how he follows it up conveying our message really counts.

Pakistan was a co-host of this world cup. After the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers all matches to be hosted by Pak were distributed to the other 3 hosts namely India, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh. Originally, one semifinal was to be hosted by Pak. Now what if that semifinal was between India & Pak? Then the situation would have been the other way around. So lets not be hypocrites. Since Pak is playing in the semifinal, there is nothing wrong in inviting Pak Prez & PM to watch the match. I fully agree that the situation is still not right for bilateral talks.
Bal Thackrey has problems with Bihari's, UP & all other people outside Maharashtra. Is he really Indian?

Very well said Mr. Hisham Ahmed, Mangalore. Also, why were these terrorists arrived at Mumbai from Gujarat ? The enemies aim was to attack India whether it is Mumbai or Gujarat. Yet, taking risk, why they sailed to Mumbai ? Why the identity of gunned down terrorists is a secret ? Karkare had a voice record of a leader who assured Sadhvi he will come to street with one lac protesters if anything happens to her...where is this record ? Who is this leader ? Is it a work of outside enemy or inside traitors are also involved in it ?

Had this match organized in Sri Lanka or Bangla Desh there was no need of any invitation and all these extra security cost.
Secondly, who wanted to get rid of those three police officers including karkare who killed in 26/11 attack. These police officers were about to disclose the political leaders name who are involved in Blast. As published in the Media why all three of them sent to one place while there were different location needed them. Thirdly why the identity of 10 others involved in that attack and gunned down was not disclosed to media? Fourthly the wife of police officer karkare refused to aceept one crore compensation offered by Modi why?
Who was that lady who saw these terrorist on the dawn of attack and she heard about the language they spoke, later she has been taken to some remote location and returned home after two day?
All mystery yet to come to light possibly thru wiki leaks? or after many years.

Why don't these people allow the players to play their usual game? The bunch of politicians and the publicity is only a Hype. Our surrogate PM Shri MMS is a pawn in the hands of his boss at 10, Janapath. He reminds the tamil movie " Yenthiran" (The robot).

Actual thing is our PM Vajpayee visited to Pakistan by bus for peace, result is Kargil war. Vajpayee invited Mushraf to India for peace talk in the year 2011, he visited, result is Parliament attack!!!. This shows that Pakistan is not interested in peace with India.

But inviting Pakistan PM to watch Cricket match is O.K. because we should not mix cricket with other issues.

This time I agree with this old man. We dont need cricket diplomacy with our bad neighbour. The onus must be on the part or Pakistan to take initiative to establish ever lasting peace with their powerful neighbour, us. We cant beg for peace from them. We must sell peace and they must buy peace from us. It should be a deal and we should have upper hand. Such diplomacies expose our weakness to our enemies and we become vulnerable to more terror attack from across the border... Its time for Pakistan to buy peace from India and not other way round.

Thackeray need not hide the facts.

Terror attacks are not only perpetrated by terrorists across the border, but by the same mindset of people within our border also. All these people are now hiding in Pakistan.

These set of people were bursting crackers in support of Pakistan team, dreaming that India will become an islamic country.

When Hindu groups adopted bomb-for-bomb theory, these people became afraid and slowed down their activities.

Pakistan will perish under the weight of its own evil deeds. There will be peace in Akhand Bharath i.e., the entire sub-continent.
