After drawing flak, ruling BJP in K'taka withdraws ban on photo/video in govt offices

Bengaluru, Jul 16 (IANS): A day after drawing flak from all corners for imposing a ban on taking photos and videos in the government offices, ruling BJP government on Saturday withdrew the prohibition order. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai maintained that the ban order was made without his knowledge.

"The ban on the photos/videos in government offices has not come to my knowledge. There is no question of hiding anything. Let others say whatever they want. Our government is functioning transparently," Bommai reacted on Saturday when asked about reversal of the order.

The government had on Friday announced the ban on taking photo, videos in government offices following the submission made by the Karnataka State Government Employees Association.

"It was a long pending demand from the Karnataka State Government Employees Association. They also have a point here. The woman employee's photos and videos were put on social media for propaganda which is a concern. However, there is no compromise on transparency. The rules and regulations which were followed earlier will be intact," the CM said.

The Deputy Secretary of Department of Personnel and Administration Reforms (DPAR), Anand K. released the withdrawal order in the wee hours of Saturday.
The prohibition order was announced on Friday inviting wrath from all sections of the society. The ruling BJP also faced trolling on social media. The posts ridiculed the decision and condemned ruling BJP for encouraging the government employees who are already mired in corruption, red tapism.

The order mentioned that the President of the Karnataka State Government Employees Association had brought to notice that private persons who make videos and photos of employees at government offices during the office time and misuse them by making viral on social media.

"This is bringing disrepute to the government and the order also mentioned association maintaining that making of videos and photos are causing difficulty to women employees," the association said.

The videos are hurting the dignity of different departments and the government apart from affecting women workers in these offices, If this is reason for banning photography in government offices, you should also ban all CCTV cameras in public spaces and in shops and malls. What a foolish argument to protect 40% commission!

We pay them salary and they ban us exposing the corruption and 40% kickback. Thank God the government realized they are not the final authority.

If you visit any Government Office in Karnataka, there are very good chances that the officials ask for bribe. The only way this can be suppressed is by introducing fear of being photographed or video recorded. How can Govt bring in a rule of not allowing photos inside the premises? They probably expected that people will photograph and record politicians garlanding, giving meaningless speeches, cutting ribbons, making mockery of disasters by visiting the sites with a battalion of politicians and Govt officials without any results, etc. At least now, better sense has prevailed by revoking the earlier ban. Otherwise, all 40% scams will never get exposed.

There is a Hon. Supreme court order that CCTV cameras should be installed in all police stations covering all areas inside , except toilets and bathroom, this should be extended to offices and residences of all government officials. People should be encouraged to take photos inside government offices and rewarded for exposing corruption. These offices are the epicenter of corruption and black money.

People's power is the greatest... If the corruption goes on like this we can see Sri Lanka type situations in govt offices... Instead of gradually reducing bribery and commissions are on rampant increase... What is the difference between 70 years of congress and 8 years of BJP???... Near to nothing... Only time will tell how many scam records will be broken by this circus gang!!!...
