UAE Bans Import of Food Items from Japan

Dubai, March 25 (IANS/WAM) UAE's environment and water ministry Thursday banned the import of food items from Japan over fears of radiation contamination following the devastating earthquake and tsunami earlier this month.

Vegetables, fruit, dairy products, fish, seafood and meat whose shelf-life is less than two weeks have been banned.

However, the UAE will allow the import of items whose shelf-life is more than two weeks. The decision follows reports from the World Food Programme on radiation leakage in Japan.
