Mangaluru: New trend – Computer science course in high demand in coastal districts

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 9: Due to Covid many changes are seen in the education sector. Demand for computer science courses has increased considerably in coastal districts. In BE, UG and PG also students are showing more affinity towards computer science.

As work from home is possible with computer science, more students are interested in it. In addition, the software sector has also shown remarkable growth.

According to Dr Alwyn D’Sa, registrar of St Aloysius College, from the past two years BCA courses have been in high demand. Last year they had 160 seats and we received more than 600 applications. This year, we have got additional intake for BCA. We have received 700 applications for 240 seats.

According to industrial experts and college chiefs, more opportunities in this sector is the reason for the increase in demand. Post Covid, there is shortage of manpower. IT professionals are in demand in India and overseas. Those who were working for IT companies were more secure during Covid.

The American market has generated more than two million jobs post Covid. IT companies mostly prefer Indians. Candidates are also demanding a good salary package.

Prof Shashirekha, HOD of computer science of Mangalore university says, “Ups and down are part and parcel of the software sector. But there is no end to this. Continuation, upgradation and progress is the specialty of this field. Those who have completed BSc, BCom are also applying for MCA. We have 30 intakes. After we increased the duration of MCA to two years, we are getting more students.”

All in all, a good opportunity to earn quick money in a short time; but only few new technologies like AI, IOT, data analytics, blockchain are in great demand; and this field is very rapidly evolving so one has to keep on updating or he becomes redundant!! Unlike brick and mortar jobs, this field leads to lots of burnouts!!
