Mangaluru, Jun 25: The Congress party has expressed concern over the textbook row claiming that the BJP government in the state has excluded the prominent idols in the textbooks for state syllabus.

Talking to media persons here on Saturday June 25, District Congress president Harish Kumar expressed that the present content in textbooks lacks clarity. Surprisingly, the students of 11th and 12th grade have not received their textbooks yet. “The books are already out, what do they intend to rectify at this point? This issue has caused pain to many students,” he said.

Further, he expressed that these actions were only adding fuel to the fire and that the Sevanjali Trust was assigned with the task of honouring textbook committee chairperson Rohit Chakratheertha. But now, the event has been cancelled.

“They claim that they have not removed any content from the textbook. But now that we have read the books, we can evidently call it a defaming and humiliating action. They must be confident enough to organise this felicitation ceremony. They must call upon him and felicitate him well in a ceremonious manner in which we would joyously take part as well,” said Harish Kumar.

Former president of the District Youth Congress Mithun Rai claimed that the BJP government has suppressed the existence of the Tuluvas.

“The BJP government has meddled with it and undermined the very essence of Tuluvas which is unfair. We want BJP to apologise and include lessons of eminent personalities and their contributions and their lives as it is. Sevanjali Trust should have called Rohit Chakratheertha, but they have cancelled the event and this is just unacceptable. Let them do it if they dare and we will give them a befitting reply that day,” he said.
