Udupi: Private bus topples on national highway at Udyavar, 20 injured

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, May 12: A private express bus that was arriving to Udupi from Mangaluru overturned at Balayipade in Udyavar while negotiating a traffic barricade placed on the road. As many as 20 passengers suffered injuries.

The driver of the bus lost control of the bus while manoeuvring across the metal barricade placed on the road. As a result, the bus toppled and fell on the divider itself.

Udupi traffic police rushed to the spot and removed the passengers stuck inside the bus with the help of public.

The injured passengers were admitted to private hospitals in Udupi and Manipal.

The bus was badly mangled in the mishap. A huge traffic jam was reported due to the accident on the national highway. Kaup station police sub inspector and traffic sub inspector Khader helped in clearing the traffic.

I feel sorry for the people who are compelled to travel by these private Express Buses run by a bunch of unprofessional mafia. KSRTC which wanted to run the buses, were forced not to, and in the end started to run just one air conditioned bus at ticket cost almost 60% higher than the private express service bus operators, nevertheless people favoured travel with KSRTC service, as their drivers drove the buses at safe speeds and were responsible drivers plus the fact that their buses were in time and running on schedules, without having to race like these crazy local private operators. The local bus drivers, most of whom are illiterate and often drunk, drive buses at such speeds and negligence thus putting commuters life in danger. But what are the RTO doing about speeding. Nothing, they just made a big issue with those blaring horns for some time, and yet lost their war. Those metal barriers placed in "S" shape on the Kundapur to Mangalore highway near every small village - are so dangerous especially at nights without any blinking hazard lights! this trend is only found in India! What sort of technology is this to try to reduce vehicular speed. That's the reason this bus has toppled because some bus drivers assume they are Michael Schumacher, and can manouvre a "S" turn at 80Km! Indian technology is still Gandhian in its concept of a Highway which took donkeys years to complete in the first place, that's exactly what happens if a job is awarded to a Barber!

Everytime one bus burns or tips over means one less headache for common people. Recently I had a encounter with a private Express Bus Driver. The Bus driver kept his Bus blocking me and He thought that He and other Bus drivers Owners of road. I showed Him a good lesson through our DCP Mr Hariram Shanker, Our strict SI of Kadri East Traffic Mr Gopalkrishna Bhat and through the Help of Police Control Room Staff plus other Traffic Police and Crime Police. Also my Thanks to SI of Kadri East Crime Station Mr Ananthapadmanabha for His tough Action to get the Bond. Bus was kept at Police station for 2 days. Now released on Bond for the safety of Public. The barricade at Balaipade is an unscientific hazard. Large vehicles such as trucks and buses have you make precarious and simultaneously bidirectional turns to maneuver it. In addition, locals and some passengers at the accident point claimed that the driver suffered from low blood pressure due to which he lost consciousness for a few seconds which led to the accident. A terrible and unfortunate incident!

Need to put some good and safe buses.. Udupi to mangalore and back . This is really bad as the bus has hit a pole before crashing into the devider as it was raining heavily. Overspeed and not breaking enough may be. No one else involved. Request to remove these nuisances

The Bus Lobby is so strong that it can run it's own Government in Coastal Karnataka. Shame on all Karnataka Goverments to allow things to reach this far. Some Manipal Volvo bus was run as an eye wash. All parties drool for meat pieces thrown by this lobby ! Apply some of ' Kerala Communist' policies here. No harm in adopting good even if it is from Lazy, good for nothing Communists.

Who will pay the expenses of the passengers who injured? The bus company has to pay it. These hospitals are shark companies they will not discharge the injured passengers after treatment. People should aware the insurance of the bust should pay all the expenses.

Wonder why the Police turns a blind eye to these Rogues , they drive like maniacs and bulldoze or harass road users with their blaring horns and flashing headlights. Road users are fined for silly reasons but the real crooks go scot free !!!!!
