Karnataka Sangh of central suburban Chembur organized ‘Sahitya Sahavasa – 2011’ Kannada literary and cultural programme here on Sunday February 13.
 
Karnataka Rajyotsav award recipient MDRT R K Shetty and Anitha R K Shetty couple were the chief guests.  They inaugurated the programme.
 
R K Shetty in his inaugural address said that Karnataka Sangh of Chembur has completed five decades of service to Kannadigas by the contributions of veteran Kannadigas settled in metro, he said.
 
Meanwhile, R K Shetty expressed his hope that education institutions that has been run by Karnataka Sangh will grow into higher education institutions in the nearest future.
 


The veteran Yakshagana Bhagavat Polya Laxminarayan Shetty in his endowment lecture on late lawyer Subbayya Shetty said that although new experiments are taking place in Yakshagana, such experiments does not sustain for longer.  Yakshagana is staged effectively by likeminded traditional artistes. It’s open for criticisms.  The Yakshagana enthusiasts are expected to be committed to the essence of enactment of mythological episode rather than focus on an artiste who performs the role, he emphasized.
 
Karnataka Sangh – Chembur president Prabhakar B Bolar in his presidential address said that they have been organizing ‘Sahitya Sahavasa’ since the past 6 years which has brought fame to the Sangh.
 
The veteran teacher Leela R Ucchil was felicitated by conferring the late Y G Shetty excellent teacher Award and Alevoor Haridas Shenoy was honored by conferring of the late Jayanti B S Kurkal literary Award in the presence of Bhujanga S Kurkal, Sitaram Shetty, Ramappa Ucchil and H Shenoy.
 
The Sangh vice president Shashidar Amin, honorary chief secretary Ranjan Kumar R Amin, honorary treasurer Devdas K Shettigar, joint secretary Vishwanath Shenava, joint treasurer Madhukar G Bailoor were present on the dais.
 
The public tributes were offered to the demise of legendary musician Bharat Ratna Bheemsen Joshi during the programme.
 
The cultural committee secretary T R Shetty welcomed the gathering.  Meghana Shetty and Archana Shetty rendered the prayers.  Journalist Dayasagar Chowta compered the programme.  Gunakar Hegde, journalist Sudhakar Anchan, lawyer Sudhakar Hosadu read the citation message.  Sundar Kotian proposed vote of thanks.
 
Tuluvappana Porlu, Tulu play directed by Ashok Kodyadka was staged as part of cultural programme.  TV serial twin actors Vaishnavi Shetty and Trupti Shetty staged variety cultural programmes during the occasion.
