Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam Party joins Congress

New Delhi, Feb 6 (IANS) : Telugu superstar K. Chiranjeevi Sunday announced the merger of his Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) with the Congress after a meeting with Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi here.

The actor-turned-politician said there was "no opposition" from within his three-year-old Andhra regional party to the merger."PRP will now merge with Congress. As of now, Chiranjeevi is part of Congress family," Union Law Minister, M. Veerappa Moily told reporters here, with the Telegu superstar Chiranjeevi standing by his side.

Asked if he expected a cabinet berth, Chiranjeevi said, "I don't expect anything. It is their (Congress) duty to allocate..."The meeting between Sonia Gandhi and Chiranjeevi Sunday took place at the invitation of the Congress president.

The Congress has been worried over the threat posed by former party MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to its government in Andhra Pradesh and had been trying to woo the PRP to either merge with it or join the government. The PRP has 18 legislators in the 294-member Andhra Pradesh assembly. The Congress with 156 members, enjoyed a slender majority.

Mr. Harold D'cunha, your sentence "Appeasing the upper class and caste people Vs uplifting working class and dalits always conflict the interest" creating lot of curiosity to me. What was stopping Congress to uplift Dalits/poors in past 60 years? Almost full 60years were ruled by Congress. It totally lacks vision.

Union Law Minister, M. Veerappa Moily has to do the same in Bihar too. Congress must support Nitish Kumar and BJP should be kicked off from Bihar. Nitish Kumar is uncomfortable with BJP's corruption scams in Karnataka. I am sure if he sides with congress, most of the BJP MLA's will join JDU because they don’t have any morale, and BJP MLA's are famous for changing the side. Just need to throw some Peanuts.

Roland, if Congress is corrupt, then show the alternatative party which is clean. If not, then Congress is the best choice. Appeasing the upper class and caste people Vs uplifting working class and dalits always conflict the interest.

Well done Mr. Chiranjivi. Though few members are corrupt (immediately sacked from Congress)it is the only party which has able leaders. Respectable Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is selflessly serving the country without striving for chair as BJP leaders shamelessly stick to power, busy in looting the country. Mr. Chiranjivi has chosen the right party to merge with. Long live Congress and Mrs. Sonia Gandhiji.

Its a calculative move by INC. Chiranjeevi too had no other option. He, in a short period, realised how hard politics is. Days are changed and today no NTR or MGR can rise. AP is a typical Indian political mother ground of dramatic, unexpected developments. All regional parties should have to merge with national political parties, by which India can see good days in political administration.

Pastor Frank, I dont agree with your statement "Mrs. Sonia Gandhi is the most honest politician of the century." - No person can be judged with outer appearance. I dont think she is honest politician, as all know how "clean" the Italians are. She maybe an Indian now, but the Italian blood is always there. Congress is the most corrupt party, just because they have some very presentable leaders, they dont look like they are corrupt. With a good command over language and a good appearance we Indians think that congress party is a non corrupt party. But to be honest, it is the most corrupt party in India. I would term the congress leaders as "polished corrupt".

Chiranjeevi proved he is a loser in life!!! He has sold the party and betrayed his supporters with the CWG , 2G or could be Bofors money from Sonia's swiss accounts . Pastor frank, we still get few votes in udupi thanks to you, otherwise Congress would have been dusted by the intelligent people of undivided DK. Congress is a sinking ship with Sonia Gandhi and blind followers.

Chiranjivi thought that he would become either like NTR or MGR but he was a big flop. At his public meetings, people threw eggs at him. Congress gave him an olive branch and he without any condition accepted it. He had no other option but merge with a stronger party like Congress. It is good for the Congress Party as they will bag the votes that would otherwise going to be divided.

Chiranjeeevi has taken a very best decision being his party merger with congress.so far all the regional parties are did nothing for the country.Ex:Mamtha,Lalitha(jaya)mayavathi, dmk all are keen in their own interest.even being the part of the government they hijacking the govt for their own purpose.this will bad impact on countr's real progress.so people are also fed- up for the these regional parties.so it ia a an historic occation not only to Andra pradesh people but also to india.

Chiranjivi's party Praja Rajyam wasted lots of valueable votes in the last elections. It's high time he realize he is fit for nothing as far as politics are considered and step out of the politics respectfully.
