Not cars, its batteries on thieves' target


New Delhi, Apr 12 (IANS): An interstate gang which had stolen more than 500 car batteries in the past one year, finally landed in police net in the national capital.

The accused gang leader Parmod Kumar and receiver of the stolen batteries Ranjeet Singh were arrested. It was officially learnt that Parmod was about to leave the country with the money earned from thefts and had already got the visa for Abu Dhabi.

During sustained interrogation of the accused, it was revealed that Parmod Kumar is the mastermind in the nexus, and he, along with his brother namely Deepak Kumar, used to steal the vehicles batteries during the early hours and used to sell to Ranjeet Kumar at cheap rates.

The accused confessed to have stolen more than 500 batteries of cars, Champion, Tata & other vehicles since last one year from the area of South West, West and Dwarka District and sold the same to accused Ranjeet Kumar who runs a junk or scrap shop at Mayapuri.

The police said that with their arres 102 cases of thefts of car batteries have been worked out.
