Mumbai, Mar 18: A BAMS doctor and two others were held on accusation of running bogus surrogacy racket and selling baby to a childless couple at Hudkehswar of Nagpur.
The accused arrested doctor is identified as Vilas Bhoyar, BAMS degree holder. He is alleged have advised an unmarried girl who was pregnant not to abort the child but sell it to a childless couple.
Another accused is a broker by the name Rahul aka Moreshwar Nimje, resident of Wathoda. He is alleged to have lured a couple from Hyderabad to visit Nagpur for surrogacy. When the couple visited Nagpur, broker Rahul collected semen and blood samples of the man from Hyderabad.
The doctor and the broker gave the baby girl delivered on January 28 this year to the childless couple who thought that it was their child born through surrogacy. The accused collected Rs seven lac from the couple from Hyderbad.
Doctor and broker were arrested by a team led by DCP Chinmay Pandit based on a tip off. The third person was arrested from Mudaliar Layout of Shanti Nagar also for abetting in the crime.
Police are investigating further to know whether the accused have duped more couples in similar manner.
