Kharkiv: Student from Karnataka killed in Russian bombing

Daijiworld Media Network – Kharkiv (MS)

Kharkiv (Ukraine), Mar 1: One Indian national has been killed Ukraine's Kharkiv on Tuesday, March 1 morning in a shelling as the war between Russia and Ukraine reached big cities' streets.

It is confirmed that Naveen Shekarappa Gyangoudar, a native of Karnataka died in a bombardment of Russian missiles. He is identified to be from Chalageri village, Ranebennur taluk, Haveri district.

Naveen is the first Indian to die in the ongoing tussle between Russia and Ukraine. He had gone to Ukraine for higher studies. He had gone out in the morning along with his five friends to fetch food when a Russian rocket hit him.

Mortal remains of Naveen are kept in a mortuary at Kharkiv.

India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, "With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family."

He also said: "We convey our deepest condolences to the family."

India's foreign secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate India's demand for urgent safe passage for the Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones.

"Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine," Bagchi said.

Russia shelled the Ukrainian city of the second largest city Kharkiv on Tuesday damaging various installations over there.

The Russian troops have also surrounded Ukraine capital city Kyiv on Tuesday and asked civilian to leave the city on the urgent note.

"All civilians in the city can freely leave the Ukrainian capital along the Kyiv-Vasylkiv highway. This direction is open and safe," Russian defence ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said.

Immediately thereafter, Indian Embassy in Ukraine asked the stranded nationals to leave Kyiv immediately by any means.

"All Indian nationals, including students are advised to leave Kyiv urgently today. Preferably by available trains or through any other means available," Indian Embassy said in an advisory.

Russian and Ukrainian troops continued to engage in fighting on Kharkiv streets as war entered into the fifth day after Russian President Vladimir Putin called for military operation.

Dear Shetty, Mangalore I am not proud of what I wrote, but it was written out of frustration. Just look at the data. 80 billion dollar worth of military HW is up for grabs in Afghanistan - In financial terms, it is write off from the books of Pentagon. Means more avenue to purchase military hardware - remember, US military spending is one of the highest in the world. Beneficiary - military-industrial complex of the west. For 10 years India spent total of approximately 50 billion dollars on military in comparison and we are one of the world's largest purchaser of military hardware. Saudi war on Yemen was fine until Biden came to office. But Biden came with a mandate that puts Saudi's at odds - Halal of Kashoggi did not help either. Now Yemen war is in the wane. This military industrial complex needed a conflict somewhere else - ta, da...Ukraine is propped up to take the stage against Putin. For as long as we remember, there was one conflict or the other which was enriching this western military industrial complex. Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Khurdistan and now when it reached the white man's land flow of emotion is profound and we are all very very sad, because we follow the narrative of the west.

My heart goes out to parents and relatives of Naveen. Coming to medical education in India I have few views. India must increase the number of medical colleges drastically. We do not require big edifice campuses to provide quality medical education/ We can have select disciplines to minimize space requirement and cash flow. Government must immediately form committee under prudent experts like Dr. Devi Shetty. .

india played the wrong card by openly supporting trump in last presidential elections... again India went against the democratic world by not condemning russian aggression.... probably there are many secret deals (military?) with russia which are lucrative to the favourite indian business dynasties... that might be the reason why India sat on the fence...

Sad that he was the victim. It is a brutal reminder of what war means. You need not be part of the war but still it will bring destruction and destruction only. Shameless Europeans and Americans pumped up a comedian to take on mighty Russia whose military is second largest in the world. Ukraine will in the coming days be a heap of rubble and the white men are celebrating the bravery of the comedian. Mande gatti undu pande kallege tantenda mande voriva? If Ukrainians are that smart, didn't they see what their first time elected comedian was doing? Ukraine stopped flow of drinking water to Cremenia - not sure that was the smart thing to do including relying heavily on hollow verbal commitments of support from pacifists in Europeans. And the white race of Ukraine has now suddenly become a strong candidate to join EU. Why were they not until now? Fact of the matter is military-industrial complex of the west will benefit handsomely from this escapade at the expense of Ukraine and tax payers of Europe. It is in their interest that this war prolongs as much as possible.

Here in India Modi government is after pleasing SCs and STs and the general category is made to suffer. The SCs and STs with less than 50% marks are getting into medical colleges and other professional colleges. What kind of quality doctors we will get in our society? Charan, it was on 15th Feb, the Indian embassy issued an advisory stating that "Students may consider leaving temporarily" whereas other countries' advisory was "should leave immediately" and they evacuated too..... The next advisory was issued only on 20th stating that "all those whose stay is not essential may consider leaving temporarily"..... But the universities insisted students to stay back and did not give online option..... Also by this time the ticket charges (one way) was increased threefold (24000 to 77000) for a Kyiv to Delhi flight by Air India..... The seriousness of the situation was never informed to the students by the Embassy / Institutes..... The local media was downplaying the chances of a war..... All these made them stay back..... This is not the time to blame them, but support them...... Also understand, if we had enough affordable educational facilities here they would not have gone..... It is quite natural for Andh Bhakths to cover up Government's failure..... but don't be blinded to this extent that you don't see and understand the sufferings of our brethren

Let me add something that I just now saw - Indians on the border areas are screaming to India for help, begging and crying as there is not even one Indian Embassy staff to help them whereas all other countries are working with their citizens to get them out. India has never stood by their overseas employees, in the time of need or in emergencies. I don't think, any other country treats their citizen's in this way. I am sure you all will come across this video one of these days. Should we thank our lousy government?

As Russia has put its nuclear weaponry ready for any eventuality, western propaganda has downplayed the threats. Now Russia and China have missiles which will reach NewYork from Russia within 30 minutes. Do these countries have time to even respond to these Hypersonic. A single miscalculation of any party will wreak havoc on the world. And that will be doomsday for mankind.

Dont play politics here, The evacuation was done after several months from Amman in Jordan. Not in matter of 5-5 days. We had to travel from Kuwait , thru road, hitch hike, walk etc..Staying hungry for days. Many did not survive. We were fed worse than animals ,Breads were thrown and 200 people converged on one packet of bread. I have gone thru that night mare. Just imagine walking 400 miles. To this day , my back and knees have not recovered. Its easy to sit in the comfy of the bedroom and blame the Govt with fake ids.

(claiming 5 trillion economy.. 2024 ... We were very small gdp wise 1990 ..)... .with an ear to the ground could have surely done better ... Not posing photo ops ....today find ministers ... By the way want to know ID CAN UPDATE .. no fakes ... In any case study the message carefully... Don’t worry fakes etc ... The govt has its machinery ..not individually expected to run around ...
