Jan 28: Dakshina Kannada reports 516 Covid cases, four deaths;  Udupi adds 818

Mangaluru/Udupi, Jan 28: Dakshina Kannada on Friday, January 28, reported 516 new coronavirus cases while Udupi registered 818 cases.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,31,128 out of which 4,965 are currently active.

As many as 791 patients were discharged from hospitals on Friday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,739. Out of which four deaths were reported on Friday.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,14,18,030 as fine in 94,416 incidents of mask violation.

Udupi

A total of 818 new cases were reported on Friday. The total active Covid cases has risen to 6,104. A total of 1,419 patients were discharged from hospitals on Friday.

Udupi taluk reported 491 cases, Kundapura 239 and 85 cases in Karkala. Three cases were from out of the district.

A total of 10,10,077 people have received first dose of vaccination and 8,54,435 have received both doses.

A total of 53 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far.

    In Udupi, majority of cases are spreading due to puc and school students. Who are not wearing masks and being overly close with their friends- that is just being kids. Something needs to be done. school students need to be given holidays for a month or two.
