Mangaluru, Jan 24: The security has been beefed up throughout the state in the wake of the fast approaching Republic Day celebrations and the inter-state travelers are being monitored at the bus stands and railway stations.

During a vigilance at the Mangaluru junction railway station, police confiscated Rs 1 crore in cash and 800 grams of gold worth Rs 40 lac from a person.

The arrested accused is identified as Mahendra Singh Rao (33). He had arrived via Durando Express train from Panvel in Mumbai. He has been taken into custody and further investigations are on.

Since his name is Mahendra Singh Rao, he might not have any bad intentions. He might be carrying this money for some charity work or for donations to some charitable groups!

Money donated for charity is tax free. What is the need to carry such huge amount of cash? I have observed even in GCC countries some prominent banks and exchange companies don’t charge commission for transfers to bank accounts of charitable organizations.
