Udupi: Sri Vidyasagara Theertha inaugurates Sumedha, devotees offer Horekanike

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Jan11: As a precursor to the upcoming Paryayotsava in Sri Krishna Math, the ascending Swamiji Sri Vidyasagara Theertha of Krishnapur Math inaugurated the Ugrana (warehouse) named Sumedha on Tuesday, January 11, situated in parking area.

Blessing the gathering, he said, "Kuchela gave three hands full of flattened rice to Lord Sri Krishna with all devotion. Krishna accepted the food happily and blessed him with wealth. Likewise, if devotees offer anything to god, He will return to the society ten times more. Oceans receive water from all the river sources but no one notices its return. Hence, we should happily accept any gift or offering without judging it for its quality. Then we should give it back to the society in the form of service."

Bhuvanendra Kediyur of Kidiyoor Hotel, Rajaram Pai of Kalsanka Girija Silk, Ganesh of Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, Suryanarayana Upadhyaya, chairperson, Paryayotsava Committee, Vishnuprasad Padigara, general secretary and members were present for the inauguration.

In the afternoon, the Udupi District Dharmasthala Rural Development Trust offered the Horekanike. Former MLA Appanna Hegde flagged off the Horekanike procession at Jodukatte.

MLA Raghupati Bhat, addressing the occasion said, "It is important that everyone contributes to the society and participates in these programs rather than few rich people doing it. I wish all Sri Krishna devotees are blessed by the Almighty for their offerings."

Horekanike Committee convener Suprasad Shetty led the procession.

The devotees offered food grains and vegetables which will be used during the Paryaya period.

Dr L H Manjunath, executive director of Dharmasthala Rural Development Scheme Trust, Vasanth Salian, regional director, Ganesh, district director, Ram Kumar, taluk director and other office bearers participated in the procession.

We should not forget safety while in rituals or celebrations. I believe God will not expect us to put our life in risk and engage in rituals or in celebrations. But he will expect us to take care of our health and also of others. This is also what Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji told initially to keep the rituals simple as per tradition without any full fledged celebrations which might endanger the life of people. But people cannot do without celebrations and tend to forget safety. Caution is very important.

They have to sit on floor and eat from banana leaves, non veg food can't be served in banana leaves and most Christians can't sit cross legged on floor. But it is definitely a good practice and remember fondly the tasty food i ate at temples and langars, don't know if these days such thing is possible.
