Mangaluru, Jan 7:  To bring about a safer and secure environment in school, Fr Robert D Souza, pincipal LCS took up this challenging task of vaccination in school campus, it was held on January 6, 2022 in Lourdes Central School.

Before the jabs were administered, an inaugural ceremony was held in the AV Room. The ceremony was compeered by Deepa D Souza, which began with a prayer song sung by the school choir and the lighting of the lamp. The dignitaries present were the principal Fr Robert D’Souza, assistant parish priests, Fr Priest Suraj Lobo, Fr Anush D’Cunha and vice principal Belita Mascarenhas. Deepa welcomed the dignitaries and Dr Nethravati M N and team, along with Sumana the staff nurse of Wenlock Hospital and the three volunteers from Besant College.

The principal addressed the students, wholeheartedly thanked the medical staff for their tireless efforts for the past two years. Fr Suraj Lobo then inaugurated the vaccination drive by declaring its open.

The drive started with the students of class 12 who came in small groups systematically, followed by class 11, class 10 and was completed with class 9. A student after taking the vaccine was observed for 15 minutes in the Observation Room. The vaccination drive was a tremendous success as around 369 Lourdites between the age group 15-18 were given the first dose of Covaxin. This was only possible with the meticulous planning of the teachers in charge who were Deepa, Shaila, Sharmila, Annie, and the student council, along with the help of the school staff. We are thankful to the medical staff and volunteers for their efforts in immunizing the students against COVID-19.
