Mangaluru: Now, ‘saffron shawl vs Hijab’ row at Aikala Pompei College

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jan 6: Pompei College at Aikala witnessed Hijab and saffron shawl issue on Wednesday January 5. Hindu students wore saffron shawls opposing wearing of Hijab by Muslim girl students.

The administration of the college came to know of the issue and held a meeting in this connection and the institution was closed as a precaution in the afternoon.

The Hindu students said that they will not remove saffron shawls until Muslim girl students remove the Hijab.

It may be recalled, similar issues were witnessed at colleges in Udupi and Chikkamagaluru earlier.

India is not a part of GCC nations. it is an Hindu Rastra in majority population with hundreds of other religions. Let those peace loving human begins , stop wearing hijab / head scarf, automatically everything will be settled. Also Hijab and Saffron shawl be banned inside the school campus, let them wear those in public places.

Feel sad for the college administrators. Seriously India is not heading in a proper directions. Many Indians works in western nations and GCC. If all countries start this religious politics on Indians not sure how it will impact them. The ways Christians are targeted by many in India this is serious matter for the international platform to review this and have a serious conversation with government to request to stop such descrimination based on religion and its institutions attacks directly or indirectly through political motives. Sad to see every day new new things are popping up. It requires to be stopped. If govt doesn stand up.then time for citizens to stand up.and ask the govt.to look into the matters

It's imperative that very institution must implement a consent letter to be signed by the parents in case of minor. After standard 8 every enrolling student must sign the rules and regulations of the school and must be done beginning of every academic year. One of the clauses must include not to wear any symbols or colours of political party. After standard 12 the student should have the option to wear the clothes of their choice but it has to be modest. No T shirts, lungi, or baniyan for boys and no short skirt (above knee), sleeveless/low cut top for girls.

There is no where in the Holy Bible a Christian woman has to wear head scarves any where and every where except only on the prayer house or during the worship place. Not at all necessary to roam while she is outside of a worship place or a Prayer house. Don't quote nd misguide people by commenting from the bible. Christian scriptures are very clear to woman.

Christian headcovering with a cloth veil was universally taught by the Church Fathers and practiced by Christian women throughout the early modern era, continuing to be the ordinary practice among Christians in many parts of the world, such as Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Ethiopia, India, Pakistan, and South Korea. The style of the veils and head covering varies by region. Every religion has right to practice. Covering head is the tradition and modesty for Islam, nothing wrong in following the practice . Its been followed and cannot be stopped .

During my college days there was no prescribed uniform. Girls used to wear skirt blouse, salwar kameez or sari and boys shirt pant or white mundu (dhoti). We never saw any girl wearing hijab or burkha. Those were the days when Indira Gandhi was PM who never favoured or appeased any particular community. Fanaticism or communalism was something unheard of in those days. Today the hijab shawl controversy has cropped up due to the growing extremism and radicalization in communities supported by rival political parties and fringe groups. Such radicalized students who spoil the peaceful atmosphere must be thrown out in order to maintain the dignity and prestige of the institution.

So, suddenly these so called educated girls woke up and realised they need to wear saffron shawls?? What is the criteria?? Is this a requirement of either their culture or religion?? Why are they even comparing it to Hijab?? Will they wear this saffron shawls all the time just as the Hijab is worn?? Also what kind of statement is that we will not remove saffron shawls until they remove Hijab???? So it is not necessary for you to wear the shawls?? Its just conditional to disturb the peace and friendship between the students?? This shows the malice and their true intentions of bringing disharmony between students. Let the so called leaders watch out and see how this generation is going to grow up in bitterness and hate.

No discrimination based to religion/caste/creed. There are no special favours for christian students at this great institution. Sad to see saffron shawl and hijab issues in some of the colleges. If you don't want to study, please stay at home wearing shawls or hijab. Everyone needs to follow college rules. Here afterwards before admission parents need to be told about dress code and they need to sign the declaration along with students. College should have rights to remove the student from college if they do all these kind of nuisance.

Hijab is compulsions on Muslims as its mentioned in Quran, but what about this saffron shawls? In which religious scriptures its made mandatory or even mentioned? Hijab is to safeguard modesty but what about Shawls, symbol of jealousy or any symbol of communal vendetta ?? Let these ignorant understand what is Religion and it's teaching, idiots doesn't know what they are doing and blindly following orders from their masters, which will take them destruction.

Quran does not mention it at all. It is a cultural matter among Arabs.

It's clearly mentioned in Quran to cover head n whole body.. Surprisingly it also mentioned in Vedas as well.. where in some part of the country Hindu girls or women follow covering there head and face.. and it's even compalsary for Christian to cover there head. Where some girl or women do. So when some girls want to follow there religion covering there head with a scaf what's the problem. But these student wear saffron shawl just to protest again girls. Not to follow there religion.. sad truth about today's world is if a woman comes in bikini she is modest n the woman who covers herself is oppressed.. It's not the people or religion which changed.. it's how we think n process have changed.. Jai hind

I remember there were some of these kinds in my class. Hatred mindset. Now they all are working in Arab countries, they don't have problem in listening to five times Azaan and also greet with Assalamualaikum sometimes. Paisa bolta hai boss.

@Mangalorian.... I don't know which Religion you follow... If your a Non Muslim, then request you to not argue without knowing anything of the Religion... If you are a Muslim, then I feel pity on your knowledge ..So whoever you are, please first read and understand the Quran and then comment, if you don;t carry knowledge then please refrain from commenting on it.

Ahmed...Hijab is not compulsary in Saudi Arabia which is very conservative country. What is your opinion? Some of Indian muslims just want to create issues and henece this hijab controversy. Also, there are useless hindu associations to create nuisance. Students should follow school rules and if they can't they can go home and do whatever they want at home.

For your Kind information, Muslims follow Islam not Saudi or any other country.. Rulers can either be pious or corrupt and what changes they bring in depend on what they are.... Current ruler of KSA is a dictator and Ayyash guy.

bjp is misguiding students to follow terrorism. Students should pay attentuiion to their studies and not come under influence of anti national sanghis who are trying to spread hate among communities for therir political benefits. If a girl prefers to wear full dress, why these hate mongers are objecting. Do they ask their mother / sister to wear minimum dress. Its the right of every human being to dress as per his/her choice. BJP is trying to misguide students to divert attention from main issues of failure in law, education, employment, developemtn, peace etc etc. BJP is trying to be in power on dead bodies.
